excellent cd belongs in everyone's jazz collection.,
This review is from: Jimmie Noone: Apex Blues (Audio CD)
This set has superb sound quality, and the music is consistantly enjoyable. Jimmie Noone one of the best clarinet players of the 20's, leads a hot 20's dance band, where there are plenty of solo spaces. This music is both historical and fun. Hot 20's jazz at it's best. Recomended especially to vintage jazz collectors.

Forgotten genius,
By Andria Rogava (Heverlee Belgium) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jimmie Noone: Apex Blues (Audio CD)
Someone may say that Jimmie Noone is NOT forgotten, that all more or less serious accounts about the history of jazz clarinet pay him his due. Probably it's true, but what I mean to say is that Jimmie Noone's music is forgotten by the general public. It's a pity, because alongside with Sidney Bechet and Johnny Dodds this musician holds the absolute heights. Yet, his style is very much distinct from both Dodds and Bechet and has it's own unique charm. The merit of this CD is also that we hear Earl Hines in ensemble with Noone and in "Apex Blues" they create a magic, which every one who wants to know what jazz is have to listen and absorb. Probably the quality of remastering isn't too perfect, but who cares?!

Jimmie Noone's "Sweet Lorraine" Is Heavenly,

Jimmie Noone's "Sweet Lorraine" is heavenly, and is worth the price of this cd, alone. I picked up this disc for a little less than 15 dollars at a Classical and Jazz cd store in MyeongDong, South Korea. I was previously aware of Noone only by name. His playing is fantastic. "Sweet Sue" and "My Daddy Rocks Me With One Steady Roll" are other fantastic performances on this disc. I highly recommend this cd to anyone interested in early Jazz. Johnny Dodds, Louis Armstrong, and the genius, Jelly Roll Morton, are other essential Jazz artists whom people should discover.
