Good Resource for Jimmie Rodgers Fans, March 21, 2006
This review is from: Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Songbook (Paperback)
The Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Songbook is a good resource for Jimmie Rodgers fans. I like Bluegrass and Old Time music and this is a good collection of songs by a very important early country artist.

A great collection of songs!, November 4, 2011
This review is from: Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Songbook (Paperback)
When I was a young guitar player, I found a songbook of Jimmie Rodgers's music in an antique store. It was published in the Thirties, while he was still alive. I did not know who he was, although I recognized a couple of the songs. Forty years later, I still have it, but I don't use it anymore. It is too valuable, fragile, and loaded with memories of these wonderful songs. This collection has most of those great songs, and I still love to play them. Jimmie Rogers is an iconic figure in American music. I am always astonished at the way these songs are recorded over and over again. "Waiting on a Train," "Miss the Mississippi," "He's in the Jailhouse Now," and so many others are woven into our cultural DNA, like the music of the Carter Family, Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Fats Waller, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry and maybe Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and Brian Wilson. Jimmie Rogers was a giant, and this collection shows that he cast a very long shadow.

Pretty OK, not all of the chords are correct, September 24, 2011
This review is from: Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Songbook (Paperback)
I'm a big Jimmie Rodgers fan, and I got this songbook so I could play some of these tunes on my authoharp. Unfortunately, not all of the lyrics and chords are complete. Notable flubs appear in "Ben Dewberry's Final Run" and "Muleskinner Blues," where the lyrics deviate sharply from Rodgers' recordings. Still, a lot of the songs are marked correctly, and occasionally they even provide the chords for the yodels, which is AWESOME. If you like Jimmie Rodgers, this is a cool thing to have, but it's also a little disappointing. Overall, I'm glad I got it.
