First off, Jimmy Eat World is from Arizona. Jimmy Eat World's Singles, while a great CD, is probably at the bottom of my list compared to Bleed American, Clarity and Static Prevails. For the hardcore JEW fan this CD is definately a must since it groups together many songs that could previously only be found on compilations and splits. If you're looking for the more friendly JEW I'd stick with Bleed American though.

Truly this album rates 4 and one half stars. Its not as polished as clarity, but then again its a collection of old demos and rare material. I truly love this album, as I do every jimmy eat world album. However I recommend that someone first buy clarity and then maybe later the Album singles. I do highly recommend this album though. Anyway I'm getting really excited for their new album which will come out in march or april 2001. I guarantee Jimmy eat World by then will be a household name with that incredible song called "sweetness".

first off, boston based? the editorial review is way off. jimmy eat world hails from tempe, az. secondly, in no way was this recorded at shows or whatnot. these are demos and singles from 7" records and other out of print rarities.

with that out of the way, let me say that this is one of the best jimmy eat world records, which dosent say much, seeing as the only one i dont recommend to everyone is bleed american, which is still a pretty decent disc. this album, however, showcases much of the subtlety and intelligence that these guys can cram into their sounds, and also shows you a bit of what they used to sound like when they were pretty hugely punk and punk alone. recommended tracks include what would i say to you now, opener, spangle, untitled (which the track listing dosent list for some odd reason,) ramina, and h model.

you wont be disappointed. unless you like bad music.

Truthfully speaking, the worst Jimmy Eat World song is better than 1,000 perfect Creed songs. (that has nothing to do with the review, I just wanted to say that) Anyways, this hew is a compilation of all of Jimmy Eat World's songs they put on...well...compilations. Top tracks for me are Opener (originally from Emo Diaries, Chapter 1...), 77 Satelites (originally from the vinyl version of Static Prevails), Christmas Card and Untitled (both from the JEW/Blueprint split 7" EP), and Digits (which later was on Static Prevails with new verse). This album is raw, good time music, pure and simple. It sums it up when Jim says "Straight outta Phoenix, boys.." on H Model. It's a raw, rocking good album. Simple as that. Go buy it and dance to it in your room in socks.

I just came into Jimmy Eat World with Bleed American. Ever since I've absolutely loved them, they rock. The only problem is that I had bought every CD of theirs I could get my hands on. This was the perfect addition. And the song "What I would say To You Now" is awesome. I finally found more great J.E.W. If you're a fan (static prevails-"bleed american", if you just like bleed american you might not like this right off) then this is a must have. Not as great as the other CD's, it's a bit choppy, but still awesome (what by Jimmy Eat World isn't?!)

"Spangle" (a song off this album) my friends has the musical ability that owes each member of the band the aww of an all-around composition for people that have a keen sense of musical talent. Along with almost all the other songs, it has been a change, a punk to an almost perfect representation of alternative rock (but the album formally named "bleed american" is the transformation's new spawn) Note: if "bleed american" is your first album by [J.E.W.], this album is different and may take some getting used to. It takes time going backwards into their discography, ya know? I Recomend HIGHLY^ for the collection!

Could Jimmy Eat World not stay consistant from one album to another even once?
In all 3 of their major label releases they sport an entirely new sound. With most bands I'd be upset by something like this but with jimmy eat world each sound is amazing. If your in a certain mood you basically have three different albums to pick from. Who needs to buy a cd from any other band.
For those of you who just couldn't get enough of their first big release, Static Prevails ,this album is for you. The good majority of these songs are all before they got signed to a big record company and are raw and sometimes not in the best quality.

It's easy to see how some of these songs didn't make an album cut but overall I fairly enjoyed the album.
It starts off with the song appropriatly titled "Opener" It's nearly 6 minutes long but it will get your blood pumping. The album begins to get repitative in place. "H Model" and "Carbon Scoring" are two songs that mix things up, and even seem out of places, not really songs you'd expect to here from these guys.
"Ramina" is as cool as a rock instrumental song will get, and "Spangle" is probably the only song on here that could of fit on both Static Prevails or Clarity, but in being able to do that it landed itself on neither. The album ends with the original version of "Digits" it was later altered and rerecorded for Static Prevails.

I fairly enjoyed this album but there is one reason i really decided to get it in the first place. "What I Would Say to You Now" those words alone sum it up. One of the best songs Jimmy Eat World has ever written. You can't call youself a true jimmy fan until you hear this song. It may not be in the best quality, and you may not be able to make out the words until a few listens but once you do you'll be hooked.
Do I recommend this album? Not really, unless you're a big Jimmy Eat World fan or you've got deep pockets. But I don't think this band has ever done anything wrong and I've never met a jimmy song I didn't like.

We all know that Jimmy Eat World is an incredible band. So what else would you expect from them but a bunch of great songs. The songs on this album are very close to the genre of Static Prevails, with Tom Linton doing most of the singing. You can tell how they evolved, they were much more of a punk band years ago than they are now, but even then they were far above average. It's a good holdover until the new album which according to the band, should be out somewhere around Februrary/March 2001, which we know will be great, and those of us who have heard the new songs can testify to that. In the meantime, make sure you pick this up.

Yes, Jimmy is from Mesa! Here in my home town! You just can't miss with Jimmy Eat World and their latest album just holds true to their wonderful music track record. A little more pop and a little more commercial than 'Clarity' and 'Static Prevails', but still pure Jimmy!

First of all, let me clarify that I reserve five stars for absolute classic albums. Four stars is for the really really good ones. Which is what this is. It's a nice eclectic (<--spelling error) sounding collection of b-sides from the Arizona boys. Almost every song is different. They each have their own unique musical sound to them, and it doesn't disappoint. My personal favorite Jimmy song of all time is on here. I find it weird that it's my favorite, but I just get into it like no other JEW song out there: "What I Would Say to You Now." It sounds like it was recorded in a basement on a tape player . . . but the spirit is there. The quality of the song is there. And when the second guitar comes in on the verse . . . my heart never fails to skip a beat. This was the last release by Jimmy Eat World before their dreaded turn to pop-dom. I think it was a nice thing to do for those of us who appreciated them before Carson Daley said their name on T.V.
