It's Really Gettin' U G L Y....,

This review is from: Jimmy Mathis / Deliverance (Audio CD)
Bubba Sparxxx is back and better than round one with these offerings! I actually picked up Dark Days, Bright Nights because I am a fan of his producer, Timbaland, but I stayed with the CD because the tracks were hott! When Bubba Sparxxx debuted in 2001, it really wasn't a surprise that Hip-Hop had managed to infiltrate the country. What I think is funny is that the 'white rapper' label quickly wore off when Bubba proved he was no joke. Although not as 'visual' to the public as other white rap artists, I fully believe when people do start taking notice, Bubba will get his just desserts. "Why the great write-up and then give only 3 stars?" Because these two tracks alone garner those stars, wait until the full CD comes out in September! The release date is on my PDA right now! Don't sleep on this one.

Bubba Sparxxx- Jimmy Mathis/Deliverance,
This review is from: Jimmy Mathis / Deliverance (Audio CD)
I have never really paid much attention to Bubba Sparxxx's music aside from watching a couple of videos of his and passed on getting his first album "Dark Days, Bright Nights". The new lead single for his next album-"Jimmy Mathis/Deliverance" (2003) is one of the nicest songs I have come across this year, beat, chorus (Timbaland)and bubba's lyrics are all impressive. Sparxxx drops lines like "Then they start to question whether you a true talent Or just a redneck substance abuse addict So then you hide away just to try to find your way And now they back to callin you 200 times a day I want all y'all to know, good or bad I'll remember it And 10 million sold in the name of my deliverance". Whether he sells 10 mill or not, this track is bound to turn some heads. This first single has made me look forward to hearing his new album which shares same name as track, and checking out his first release.

Bubbbas "Dark Days, Bright Nights" was mediocre. There were mostly half-assed songs on there with a few exceptions. The first 2 singles for his second album "Deliverence" are better than most of his other songs that we've heard. The song "Deliverence" is a more serious song with an acoustic guitar. I didn't think he was capable of this kind of music but i guess he is cuz this is a really good song. The second song "Jimmy Mathis" is decent. is a little short with 2 verses but it has a nice quick southern beat that makes up for it.So far so good. Lets hope the whole album is this good.

Like Bubba Sparxxx says: This musical marriage (him and urban producer Timbaland, hip-hop and country bluegrass music) is no coincidence. Before hearing these two singles and the rest of Bubba's new album I thought that he was average at best, only breaking through thanks to Timbaland. After hearing Deliverance/Jimmy Mathis, I'm convinced that Bubba is as profound an MC as they come, - touching on various subjects such as spirituality, religion, (southern) culture, and other social issues. I could care less if the man can't freestyle, he's an MC that speaks on issues that come from the heart, and his honesty makes up for his lack of battle lyrics.I can only drool at what his album has in store for us, Timbaland is a musical genius: the man who made it hip to use East Indian beats and wear Saris has done the unthinkable: bridge two musical genres previously thought to be polar opposites: hip-hop and bluegrass country music. I haven't been this excited about an album in about five years; I think Bubba's Deliverance (album) is going to be a huge success if marketed properly, if it's pushed at the urban market and the traditional country market it could be huge because the theme of religion and spirituality is common to both, and the musical composotion combines both the wholesome, down to earth sounds of the country with the soul and funk of urbanity. Great singles, and hopefuly, a great album.

The New South puttin it down...if you didn't catch on to Bubba's vibe last time, he will be sure to grab your attention this time around. Bubba Sparxxx is sort of an acquired taste anyway. If you like Timbaland's productions and you like Southern Hip Hop than you can't go wrong with this. Bubba is flowing on this...and the beat is forever bumpin...
