Let's face it, I bought this CD for the hit "Are You Jimmy Ray?"; the only hit from this album. Upon listening to this CD, and consequently loving it, I discovered a true musical genious. While entertaining and energizing, "Are You Jimmy Ray?" is perhaps the least enjoyable song on the entire album. "Goin' to Vegas" is an invogorating, fast-paced song with a cute and catchy chorus. "I Got Rolled" is perhaps one of the most infectious tunes. The intros of "Daddy's Got a Gun" and "Way Low" are reminiscent of, respectively, the whine of climactic scenes in western movies and a country-western song. "Look Inside For Love" definitely has the most catchy hook, what with the "Doodly-doo Da Ba Doom-bop". The predominant instrument in "Trippin' On Baby Blue" is the harmonica, which gives the song a bluesy feel. A definite highlight is "Sex For Beginners", which is a revolutionary swing song. "Let it Go Go" is a wonderful little ditty and "Free at Last" is perhaps the best song of all. It has a wonderful beat and a hint of country-ness.

This CD is extraordinary all around. While relatively short (35 minutes), it has exceptional lyrics and great beats and hooks. Jimmy Ray's CD is definitely pop, but with country, swing, and blues influencing it. Ray is a terrific singer and his CD is perfectly satisfying, exactly what one wants in a CD.

But, be warned: Listening to this CD may leave you feeling breathless and hyper, for it is entirely upbeat. I recommend it as ideal work-out music.

The only troubling aspect is that this CD is already three years old. There is no seeable follow-up coming out, so this CD may leave you yearning for the next. Let's just hope there'll be one.

This album has been one of my favorites since its release over 6 years ago! A really fun album and singer who never took themselves or their image too seriously (yes Timberwoman, I'm talking about you!). Released around the time of the Spice Girls and the whole Brit-pop invasion of the late 90s, I had high hopes that Jimmy would have at least released a follow up album. Unfortunately he did not, so we will never know what really happened to him. Perhaps he is shake-a-shake-a-shaking it in Vegas.

Wow!~ I like this cd mainly because of the song "Are you Jimmy Ray?"....but I think the rest is awesome too!!~ Its the perfect cd for dancin or just chillin with your friends!...It pumps me up!! :)
