Book Description

High school can be a difficult time in a young person's life, especially toward the end where one has to start making the sudden transition into adulthood. For Jimmy Hawthorn it is even worse. Not only does he need to successfully make that transition, he has to do it while hiding the fact that he is the one responsible for kidnapping two fellow high school girls, both of whom are hanging from their wrists in a secret underground fallout shelter he discovered behind an abandoned house on the outskirts of town.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"For the first time in a long time I have read a story about a human monster that is not only complete in profile but believably realistic. William Malmborg's Jimmy is not a one dimensional sociopath; he is real, with an alter ego, a family life, and a coming of age which gives this story and this character credence and depth, something that has been rare in this trope for some time."- Lurid Lit

"I highly recommend this book if you can stomach it." - Trouble Reads

"It takes a lot to disturb me in a believable way and Mr. Malmborg certainly achieved that." - William Cook, author of Blood Related

"William Malmborg's Jimmy is a fast paced and entertaining read." - Chizine Book Reviews

"Jimmy Hawthorne is the scariest villain of all because he's a human being. He learns lessons and actually grows on you as a character heartbeats after revolting you." - Extollere

"This book definitely had a grain of reality to it and that's what makes it horrific . . . if you can handle the topic and you are looking for something new, this is definitely different than anything you've probably read lately." - Dark Media

5.0 out of 5 stars Not at all what I expected January 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I downloaded this book expecting a trite, cliche read. Ya know, the modern day "Phantom of the Opera" misunderstood ghoul, who, despite being overwhelmingly awesome and charming to the reader, is shunned by other characters. So he is left with no choice but to spirit away a virginal popular chick to his lair where, upon having his advances spurned, goes on a rampage that would include erotic sadism. Perhaps tying her arms to the headboard while with a calloused hand pries her quivering thighs apart as she lays prone to his "cruel" violation and...and...*yawn*

Thank you William Malmborg for NOT writing that novel.

Jimmy is fascinating because he's so ordinary. Unlike most anti-heroes, he was not abused as a child. (Hannibal) He doesn't have a traumatic past. (Deadpool) He doesn't hear voices.(Beautiful Mind) He's not the love child or grandson of a serial killer (Bad Seed) He's not trying to get revenge for the cruel high school population that shunned him (Carrie).

Nope, he's just a normal senior in high school that happens to be a true sadist rather than the watered down version we often see in the media.

Jimmy isn't the most popular guy at school, but he isn't a total freak either. In addition to an awesome younger brother he's best friends with a pretty girl that's down to earth, funny and like-likes you as much as you like-like her. (sorry, couldn't help myself)

I can't say too much of the story because it's really better to read it yourself and become totally lost in Jimmy's world.

The scenes in the bomb shelter turned dungeon were graphic at times, but not in an obnoxious shock value kind of way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Reads 2012 July 1, 2012

I can't understand the naysayers' reviews of this scary but brilliant book! The cover should give you a good idea of the nature of this story and if you are looking for a high tension, edge of your seat, psychological thriller, then this is what you will get. I admit, the first time I started to read 'Jimmy' I was probably not in the right headspace as I had to put it to one side. It takes a lot to disturb me in a believable way and Mr Malmborg certainly achieved that, I have since read the book again, this time through to its gripping finale and I am glad that I persevered. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle said once, "Where there is no imagination there is no horror," and I agree, especially in regards to Malmborg's 'Jimmy' - this book is full of the horror that is humankind's capacity for cruelty and perversion. WM carries this off very successfully with his unique imaginative powers of description and characterisation; consequently, 'Jimmy' is like watching a horrific car crash about to happen, happening, and finally happened! We don't want to look but we can't help ourselves, and as a result we confront aspects of our own humanity and see a reality all too often glossed over. Good writing should be challenging and this is what 'Jimmy' is - both challenging and an example of a writer destined for bigger things. If you like to be shocked, frightened, confronted and potentially disturbed, then this book is for you. On the other hand, if you like to read engrossing fiction that keeps you on the edge of your seat and entertains with scenes of horror and miscreant brilliance, then this is especially for you. Highly recommended, can't wait for the next one.Jimmy

5.0 out of 5 stars Horrific and Disturbing Read August 21, 2012
By Jenn
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Once I started this book there was no way I could put it down. The author wastes no time in getting to the action and in getting your emotions to surface so you stay right on the edge of your seat as you read. My main emotions throughout the book were anger and fear. It has been a really long time that I have been so angry in a book that I wanted a character to die. I usually feel sadness for the villain in the books I read. Usually they are evil for a reason that is beyond their control but Jimmy has no other reason than he has a fetish that he has allowed to run ramped in his mind. His want to watch and control his captives have lead him past the point of no return. Even though Jimmy is the main character in this book there are so many characters that you will get to meet and know that makes this an even better read. There are stories within the story that keeps your mind focused in other directions besides the main shock and fear. This book also has love and caring within that will make your mind wonder why and how can these things happen to theses people.

I don't like to be a spoiler but I will give you warning that this book has one of the saddest endings ever. I was left with a wad of wet tissues around me as I finished. Not a bad ending by any means but just sad.

This is a sexual bondage horror and not for the faint of heart. I am a horror fan and at times this book was almost too hard for me to read but that is what I loved most about it. This book was a challenge of my mind and emotions. I look forward to reading everything William Malmborg has written and will write in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Just Couldn't Stop Reading! February 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Jimmy was a brilliantly written book, sure it did have the odd typo like other reviewers have mentioned (although not to the extent some have claimed) but that doesn't detract from the fact that it is a brilliant tale that takes you right there alongside both the villain and his victims, experiencing events through all of their eyes. The thrill, the worry, the fear, the courage, the helplessness, you feel all the emotions. You're right there in that underground bunker as Jimmy tries to live out his fantasies that he has had since a small child, finding some of them don't exactly go the way in the real world he thought they would. I also loved the side stories, other authors would have told this tale without them, or added something like the police point of view instead which has been done to death, instead these other characters and their impact on Jimmy not only let you understand Jimmy more but also made you wonder if Jimmy would grow a conscience and change his mind and how that would play out, or would he instead be killed or hospitalised himself due to his own predators, and how that would affect those tied up in the bunker. Such as Jimmy and his relationship with his younger in age, although older mentally and socially than him brother. The naivety Jimmy has to his best, and one of the only kids at school who is his friend's attraction to him, and the naivety to social norms of relationships. In a lot of ways in social situations Jimmy was like Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory but obviously Sheldon doesn't want to hang the women he meets from the pipes in a dungeon while he forces them to fulfil his desires.
