5.0 out of 5 stars A brief note..., February 28, 2007
This review is from: Jimmy Wine Majestic (Audio CD)
I was just glancing at the reviews for this album and wanted to correct the person that said the singer departed after this record. Tim Rutilli was the "singer" for Red Red Meat on all four of their records, and has been making really excellent music with Califone for several years now. I'm guessing a lot of people who check this out heard of it thru Califone. RRM's later records are a lot more similar to Califone; this one has more of a Stones-y feel that other reviewers describe. I first came across this album in high school when it first came out, because I bought everything on SubPop at the time. It was unlike the heavy grunge music popular at the time, and it has aged very well. I particularly like the sad acoustic songs, some of which Califone still plays live. There's a certain sadness to all the music Tim Rutilli does- once you hear it, it becomes instantly familiar. People that like Califone's music will most likely find something here to get into as well, but this record completely stands on it's own merits.

I WAS VERY SUPPRISED THAT THERE WERE NO REVIEWS OR CUSTOMER COMMENTS ON THIS CD. THIS WAS THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR IN CHI-TOWN 1994. STONES, EXILE ON MAIN STREET INSPIRED RIFFS MIXED WITH DOWNER SOUNDS AND VOCALS (COBAIN). GREAT CD TO LISTEN TO WHEN YOUR IN THE MOOD, EARLY MORNING, WINDING DOWN, ENTER SANDMAN SOON. KNOW WHAT I MEAN? CHECK IT OUT JACK!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my top 10 favorite LPs, February 7, 2008
This review is from: Jimmy Wine Majestic (Audio CD)
I picked up this album in my freshmen year of college after reading all the nominations it recieved in the Illinois Entertainer readers poll. I had caught the video for Smokey Mtn Dbl Dip on JBTV and asked my friend who worked at Hegewich Records if he would recommend it. I bought it and was instantly mesmorized. This album can easily be listened to on repeat for a long trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good then...still good., March 19, 2004

I bought this CD right around the time it came out, listened to it many times over, and saw them live in Chicago. It had been years since I listened to RRM when I cracked open the CD again just recently...good then...still good now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wake up Earthlings!, July 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Jimmy Wine Majestic (Audio CD)
Wake up Earthlings! Where are you? Where have you been? This ain't no N-STINK/BACK STREAK commercial Teeny-boppin jive. We're talking the real deal here! Get on it, RIGHT NOW!

I'm not sure why there aren't more reviews of this FIVE STAR, SUB POP effort from one of the BEST (but underrated and maybe unknown) bands from Chicago, ever. The music sounds a lot like the Stone's Kieth Richard's "Exile on Main Street". Raw guitar "downer in the basement" type riffs. You can almost see the smoke. Vocals like Cobain, fits the music like a dirt old glove. Ya gotta hear it to believe it.

Buy this CD, NOW! It's RED RED Meat's best! A late night/early morning kind of album. The singer split after this effort. There next effort "There's a Star Above the Manger Tonight"(though good) is a lot more experimental, check it out too. You won't be disapointed!!
