EXCELENTE LIBRO!,

This review is from: Jineteras (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)

MAGNIFICO,
This review is from: Jineteras (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)

The Sordid World of Socialist Cuba,

This review is from: Jineteras (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
Jineteras awaits an English translation and in doing so it will make money since the topic is sex. The book is essentially a compilation of case studies of women, very often professional women, who are forced to engage in prostitution in order to survive in Cuban society since they do not belong to the Communist Party. A lot of the material deals with the exploitation by the tourists from Canada, Spain, Mexico and Italy as well as the blackmailing by the lower rank authorities. The book stays away from the politics, thereby avoiding the automatic condemnation that would ensue from the admirers of the regime outside of Cuba, but it is obvious that the intolerable conditions in the country are due to the regime. It is also important to remember that when the dictatorship was in its first couple of decades, it touted itself with having done away with prostitution in the country since according to Marxist dogma, prostitution was the result of capitalist exploitation and the inequality of wealth. How about that. you don't hear that anymore.
