The art work in this book is excellent. Unfortunately, the story text has many repetitive sentences that begin with the words but and and...not a stunning example of proper sentence structure. Also, the book is advertised as interactive. It is not made clear that one has to purchase the stuffed bear at Hallmark in order to hear the various responses of the dog when the text is read.
Everything was as planned at first, my son didnt want me to read or help at all (the intent), then came the first phrase. Read in the voice of a first grader....no Jingle....Daddy reads the line and Jingle responds. By halfway through the book, we have full blown tears and a request that Mommy take Jingle back to the store cause he is mean and won't listen to my son.
The situation was averted by pointing out that Jingle was made by a silly grownup and programmed by a silly grown up who obviously didn't consider that kids and grown ups sound different. I pointed out that we should feel sorry for Jingle because on Christmas morning millions of kids were gonna be mad at him all because of that silly grown up. Jingle is now loved and accepted, but only if I promised we wouldnt pull the book out again and that I write a letter complaining about the silly grown up. So here is the letter, and to all of you Jingle buying parents, I hope your experience is better than ours, but be prepared if it isnt.
This book is precious by itself, with the cutest artwork and a tender, moving but simple storyline. The story teaches the value of having a home, and being able to offer a home to others less fortunate. I like the simple verse, non-rhyming which is good too. And the ending--what a beginning for Christmas joy without bounds! If an adult reads this book to a child with animation, and gets the child involved, it would be a most precious experience for the holidays.
I will write the graphics, or images, are lovely but they could have been laid out better. They may look fine in a print book but the images are a bit lacking when shown in an e-Book such as the Kindle.
Recommend with caveats given.
I purchased Jingle just before the holidays and gave it to my daughter the day after Thanksgiving. I wanted her to have it for the entire season. I think this toy would be a great Christmas gift, because it coincides with the storybook, but I think it makes for a great winter season toy and cuddle friend on Christmas Eve and the days leading up.
Jingle has a price tag, and I would buy early because it gets a bit higher as the season approaches.
Ages I would recommend this for?-3-5.
Jingle is pretty soft, although his body is stiff due to its interactive technology going on internally.
So cute, I would have wanted one as a child.
The book is really cute, and you can buy additional titles.
The sounds are clear and I've never had it glitch before.
Cannot be washed so little ones who have accidents should keep Jingle off the bed.
It responds to adults voice over high pitched child's voice. This was the biggest con. My daughter would say the book cues and Jingle would not respond, though every time I read the cues he replied correctly, this can be hard for kids and result in a red faced tot screaming at a stuffed animal.

I don't think pets should be presents but glad Santa rescued him and a boy got his hearts desire. Recommend when teaching children about homeless pets and rescuing them.Published 1 month ago by Amazon Customer
