what a wonderful holiday offering,
By Aviva Lynne "Great Aunt to Lanie, Wyatt, Luke... (Roanoke, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jingle Bells (School & Library Binding)
This is a wonderful addition to your Christmas book collection. I just purchased two copies for my niece and nephew's young families. I was really pleased that even I who is muscially challenged could sing the new verses without much difficulty. I loved that the book introduces children to Christmas customs in other parts of the world as I am always on the lookout for books that make my youngest nieces and nephews aware of people beyond their own neighborhoods. I think this will be a must have Christmas offering.

Fun Song to introduce other cultures,
This review is from: Jingle Bells (School & Library Binding)
The book is an extention of the Jingle Bells song, with new verses added to talk about how kids celebrate in other countries. It gives very minimal details really, but it's a cute intro with a flying sleigh that flies around the world. They visit Mexico, Philippines, Italy, Sweden, Kenya, & Poland. My 2-year-old enjoys it & I'm sure it will be one that we continue to read in future years as well.

Fantastic fun look at Christmas around the world,
By
This review is from: Jingle Bells (Paperback)
Our whole family loves this book (children almost 4 and almost 6 years of age and Mom and Dad, too).
The illustrations are nice and the children (and the adults, too) learn something simple about the Christmas traditions around the world. The words to the book are meant to replace the lyrics to Jingle Bells, so you can actually sing the whole book. I like the fact the rhymes seem to fit easily into this format and none seem forced. I love that we learn about traditions in other cultures and that the children from each country pile into the sleigh so they can all come back and have a celebration together at the end. After the final page, a little more detail about each of the traditions is given for parents to read to children who are ready for that, and the music is given in case you want to play it all on the piano. A delightful addition to our Christmas book collection (and we must have about 40 choices at this point)! This one is a favorite.

I bought this for my prek class. They loved it. I used jingle bells as I sang the first verse. The illustrations are bright and beautiful. I did not find them offensive as one reviewer (depiction of Italian grandma). It seemed more caricature than anything else and I think illustrations can do that. It fit perfectly with my theme of cultures of the world in celebrating Christmas. Our librarian loved it and was getting it for the whole school. Would definitely recommend it!

I was expecting all of the verses to the traditional Jingle Bells. Instead, after the first verse, there were a bunch of made up verses about different countries with moderate success at rhyming and rhythm. Illustrations are average bordering on stereotypes. Italian grandma (la Belfana) with hooked nose and wart? Really?

How Christmas is celebrated in some parts of the world,
This review is from: Jingle Bells (Paperback)
Iza Trapani expands a well-loved Christmas song and in the process takes readers on a wonder-filled sleigh ride through different countries such as Kenya, Italy, Sweden, Poland, the Philippines and of course the US, showing us how Christmas is celebrated in these countries in vivid color and cheerful illustrations.
I'd recommend all of Ms Trapani's books as they make for wonderful reading aloud as well as sing-alongs.

We were late on this book too. My 8 year old and I sung this book together. It is Jingle Bells with the words changed to show children in different countries enjoying Christmas. It is a fun book with great pictures. Recommended for preschool - 2nd grade.

As a storyteller at the local library, I am always looking for new and different books to read to my preschool group." Jingle Bells" was one of the best holiday selections I have read. The illustrations are large enough for a group, and the colors and detail are superb. Trapani tells a story of Christmas around the world, describing how the children in Poland, Sweden, Italy and several other countries celebrate their own special holiday. Great book!
