It is fanciful and exciting, interesting and so beautifully illustrated. The detail is incredible and the story is fun and adventuresome! It's a book for young and old alike! How refreshing to have some truly great books like this one still out there for us all to enjoy!

I'm 32. I woke up in the middle of the night last night remembering this book from my childhood and had to find it. It's been quite an adventure (at first, I could just remember the gryphon's head). This is a great vintage children's story. I had it read to me. I love it. I bought it and I'm going to read it to my kids.

A gorgeously illustrated (seriously, just LOOK at the drawings!) and fantastical adventure story about an aging knight preparing one last big campaign against his old enemies (dragon, bear, tiger, troll, and gryffon). This book was a gateway to all sorts of wondrous imaginings as a child and now I can share it with my four-year-old daughter and I can see the sparkling in her eyes each time we read it together. I highly recommend reading it aloud if you can act out the voices of the characters and all their asides in the fabulous artwork. Great depth within this book, for all ages. Your personal library deserves a copy!
