5.0 out of 5 stars perfect eclectic gutter-pop, February 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Jitters (Audio CD)
This is a phenominal amalgamation of punk influences, and dirty pop/grunge songwriting sensibilities. The guitars are as vocal as the emotive (and downright excellent) singing here, and the tricky slashing rhythms, smoothed by simple harmonious bass lines, only add to the power and overall accessibility of this great record. Don't miss it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Ethyline is like if Green Day met Goo Goo Dolls, with balls, July 24, 1999

I was really surprised to hear how good this record really is. This Chicago band writes great songs, but the musicians kill too. Ultra-melodic punk-pop with real freakin' songs. The harder parts give Pennywise a run for their money and the more mild songs blow away groups like Matchbox 20. This is a great band and you will hear about them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jitters Rocks!, November 21, 2000

This review is from: Jitters (Audio CD)
I bought this album after listening to a couple of Ethyline songs and was very pleased with the whole CD. Besides the awesome guitar are some rather cool beats that you can't help but rock to. If you like up-beat punk/rock, lyrics that are worth paying attention to and kick ass guitar melodies in your music, definitely buy Ethyline...it's the CD you never knew you always wanted!!!

I could listen to this album over and over again. Check them out live if you're ever in the windy city. In the meantime, you have to check out this album.

I bought this CD after seeing Ethyline play a couple of times here in Lafayette, IN. I'm no punk rock aficionado, so I'm reluctant to make comparisons to other groups, but I had read that most of this band used to be the band Sledgeworth with Dan Vapid from Screeching Weasel on vox. Most of these tracks feature melodic bass lines with a 2 guitar approach that builds rhythmic counter melodies. The vocals have some grit to them as well as some good articulation.. Seems like Samiam was an influence there.

The songs are pretty eclectically styled while still being cohesive. Some are out and out rockers, there are a couple of really good slower tunes, and some that are just kind of their own thing like "gawk".

This album is pretty old now, but I still think it's a really good find and a quality collection of tunes. I think Ethyline had some other material released, but the best I could find was a few realaudio clips out on the web. I also heard that at some point they changed drummers and the band name and took a more nu-metal direction, but I've not heard any of it.
