I would highly recommend this book to anyone, but manly to those who have interest in Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Mark has been practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for the past 14 years and has some amazing insights into the world of the Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. The book is full of his philosophy on Jiu-Jitsu which seems an obvious byproduct of his many years of interaction with Master Pedro Sauer (considered by many to be an utmost authority in Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu). The book is full of helpful tips, hilarious stories and will keep you interested until the finish. The only downside to the book is that he uses some strong language in parts to add effect. I would still recommend this to anyone that is looking for a fun read about a lifestyle that is sometimes hard to understand. Mark makes it easy to see why so many people enjoy the practice of Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and why some are apt to call its practitioners fanatical.

I am lucky to have met Mark and to read his blog and have always enjoyed his musings. This book is a fantastic collection of short topics covering the subtext of the sport of jiu jitsu. If you are just getting into jiu jitsu especially this book will help you on your journey with inspiration and explanation of this beautiful sport. Mark is a very engaging writer and makes his books fun to read.

I cannot wait to read this book! I have been a follower of Mark Johnson's blog for a while now and am very excited to see what he has chosen to publish in his first book.Mr. Johnson's take on Gracie Jiu Jitsu is fun and insightful. He has some very good tips for those new to the art as well as things for seasoned veterans to remember. His writing style is smooth, clear with just enough humor to keep it spicy. You can really tell that he puts a lot of thought into his training and loves to share it.

Oftentimes the most profound insight comes from the unscripted, rambling thoughts of a genius... This fact is exactly what makes Jiu-Jitsu On The Brain an absolute necessity for not only the one who's colored belt is tattered and worn by the rigors of unyielding battle, but equally so for the one who is about to awkwardly attempt to tie a proper knot into that virgin white belt for the very first time. Basically people... Buy this book!!! Other than a Bic Mac Value meal, what else can you buy for under five dollars that will stick with you forever?! Thank you Mark! I'm thirsty for more, and will definitely be stopping by your academy next time I'm in your neck of the hoods on an "FBI Training Assignment"!

I haven't read many BJJ books. The ones I have--they tackled history, the art itself, various biographical accounts of the authors, and so on.None of those other books touched upon what happens to the rest of your life when you walk in a school for the first time. This book does just that: It sets some boundaries between aspects of your life, and it acknowledges the places where those boundaries can blur. There are a couple mild grammatical bloopers (occupational hazard for the common copy editor), but don't let them deter you. It's a quick read. It's a good read. And it's definitely worth the price.

I'm a bit hard pressed to say something about this book that hasn't been said already. Jiu-Jitsu on the Brain gives a candid glimpse into the life of someone who has chosen the study of a martial "art" as a path of personal evolution. For those new to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, think of this book as an introduction to what you might be in for, what to look for, and what to even possibly avoid. To those who are familiar with this world, you might find this to be like a 'Chicken Soup for the Jiu-Jitsu Soul'. I highly recommend this book.

The book has several topics ranging from basic Jiu Jitsu tips all the way to philosophical things to think about. Its a real easy read and can be read by beginners all the way to black belt. This is not a technique book but more of a pocket guide to BJJ. I highly recommend you give it a try. At 4.99 its well worth it.

Mark Johnson is one of the most stellar individuals I have ever met in my life. The years of experience in working with youth and becoming a skilled Jiu-Jitsu star, Mark has developed the knowledge and wisdom to share with anyone whether they train or study jiu-Jitsu or not. I would recommend his writings to anyone. His truths he shares are priceless.

Mark's book is great for anyone inside or outside of bjj. Its not a book of technique although there are many valuable things to be learned about breathing, frame of mind, and hygiene. I like it because it discusses things in an honest way that I can relate to, that helps me in my bjj journey, and it makes me laugh. There is no mysticism in matulence.
