4.0 out of 5 stars A nice addition to your library
It covers all the important bases, but this book doesn't have the authoritative tone and depth of the classic childcare books such as Caring for Your Baby and Young Child: Birth to Age 5 by the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care or Your Baby and Child: From Birth to Age Five by Penelope Leach. As an additional volume though, it's just fine...

3.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Overview from Pregnancy to Toddlerhood
I bought this book to get more information about sleeping/eating schedules for 0-3 month-olds. There's is some information about that in there, but it doesn't go into much detail. The book is more like a broad overview, starting in pregnancy. It's definitely a good purchase for somebody who just got pregnant since it talks about all the things you might need to buy and...

This review is from: Jo Frost's Confident Baby Care: What You Need to Know for the First Year from America's Most Trusted Nanny (Paperback)
As an additional volume though, it's just fine.

The book has a whiff of cheap about it. The unsophisticated design incorporates no color photographs (the Leach book above has over 350) and less than a dozen black and white images.

The advice, however, is sound. Throughout the book are boxed "Need to Know" items on topics such as the steps to administering medicine to a baby and when to call the doctor.

Here's the chapter list:

Part 1: Before Baby's Born
* Becoming confident parents
* Making confident first choices
* Essential equipment for provisioning your baby

Part 2: Baby's Here!
* Zero to three months
* Three to six months
* Six to nine months
* Nine to twelve months

Part 3: Exceptional Circumstances
* Multiple births
* Preemies and other special needs
* The adopted baby

Part 4: Tidying Up: Resource Guides
* Growth charts
* Immunization schedule
* Common illnesses and ailments in babies
* Meningitis
* Emergency first aid for children under one
* First aid kit
* Toys for the first year
* Useful resources
* Baby log

5.0 out of 5 stars A God Send...wonderful book!!!, May 17, 2008
This review is from: Jo Frost's Confident Baby Care: What You Need to Know for the First Year from America's Most Trusted Nanny (Paperback)
I just got this book a couple of weeks ago. Already I have implemented a feeding routine for my 3 month old. He is taking to it wonderfully. I have also read great advice on different issues, such as crying, nap times, etc. What is wonderful is that Jo breaks the age groups up so that you can tailor your parenting to that age group. I was so glad to recieve the book while he is still young, so that I may implement the different routines (feeding, sleep, play time) as he grows.

5.0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend it, October 28, 2010

I wish I have found this this book BEFORE my babies were born. I highly recommend it specialy for parents for the first time, I bought it when my triplets where 5 months old, but still it was a great help.
In other books about "the first year of your baby" concentrate only on how your baby is going to develop, what is he/she going to do at certain age, but this book is about how to understand and take care of your baby, its a very different approach.
If your hesitating about getting this book... stop doin it and buy it. It's also a great gifto to give your friends or family, but remember to give it at least one month before deadline.

4.0 out of 5 stars Straight to the point. No verbal garbage here., September 6, 2008

I liked the way this book was organized, and found the illustrations useful. Joe Frost's no-nonsense approach to child care makes her a favorite in this family, and I gave her book to my daughter who is expecting her first child in December.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book & Fast Service!, August 28, 2008
This review is from: Jo Frost's Confident Baby Care: What You Need to Know for the First Year from America's Most Trusted Nanny (Paperback)
I gifted this book to my sister, Aimee' (first time mom), and not only did it arrive the next day when I only paid for regular shipping, but it made all of baby's sleeping problems go away. Aimee' can now sleep through the night EVERY night. Using techniques in this book is like taking a sleeping pill... definitely a good thing for any mom out there!

I bought this book to get more information about sleeping/eating schedules for 0-3 month-olds. There's is some information about that in there, but it doesn't go into much detail. The book is more like a broad overview, starting in pregnancy. It's definitely a good purchase for somebody who just got pregnant since it talks about all the things you might need to buy and consider before you have your baby. Definitely a good starter book, but due to the broad coverage there's not that much detail about any specific topic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great book from the super nanny, February 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Another great book from the super nanny! If you are having a baby, you should buy it, since it covers all the important matters regarding the subject from newborns to toodlers. It provides detailed instructions and useful tips for making your home a safety and healthy place for the baby, how to create and follow a daily routine for the baby and the family, how to set up your expectations about what's gonna come with the baby's arrival, how to feed them, bath them, taking care of them (and you) and so on. She shares expert advice on the subject that I think every new parent should know about.

Jo Frost does it again......she is great at what she does. She gives you all the info you need and writes it in ways that makes you feel like she is talking to you in person. I LOVED THIS BOOK. I recommended it to family members and friends that are expecting and those who are not.

This is an easy read, and a great resource for a mom (or dad) of a baby under 1 year. I would recommend this product to any first time mom or as a gift for a baby shower.

This review is from: Jo Frost's Confident Baby Care: What You Need to Know for the First Year from America's Most Trusted Nanny (Paperback)
I am a new second time mom and feel like this is my first child. This book shares so many helpful ideas for being a mom. I was reassured and given confidence by reading that a lot of the things I already do are suggested. This is a great book and I highly recommend it to everyone.
