4.0 out of 5 stars I want more! January 18, 2006
By E.M.
The new InStyle has excerpts from this book - beautiful photos of bouquets that caught my eye - so I decided to check it out. My sister-in-law has asked for help with her wedding and this book is chock full of simple, elegant, modern ideas. Fresh and fun - like it's being planned by a cool friend and not your mom! We are totally using Gartin's ideas for gift baskets - the coolest I've seen so far and invites: hers are elegant, never stuffy. My only issue with the book: why isn't it bigger?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great find January 6, 2006
My friend just got engaged, I wanted to find the perfect book. There are so many out there that are all the same, boring and not very helpful unless you have a million dollars. I was so excited to come across this book. Wow, it's gorgeous! Not only is it stylish, but there are so many amazing ideas ,that you feel you can really plan your wedding without having to spend alot of money. The author seems to have so many tricks up her sleeve, I hope she puts out another book so I can learn even more. It's young, sophisticated and really unique.
My only qusetion is why is it on sale ? I loved it and so did my friend. I will recommend it to everyone. Thank you for putting out a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The very best in a competitive field. January 3, 2006
Reluctantly, I read some of the litany of literature my fiance (now- wife) picked up for our nuptials. This was the only book that was not only useful, practical and informative, but beautifully laid out and laden with gorgeous pictures and illustrations. Needless to say, I still get grief from both my literary and hunting buddies for reading it cover to cover, but it is the book I'm buying for ALL my friends who are marching down the aisle anytime soon. I feel kind of cool for having read it early on, as I'm absolutely certain it will become the book of choice for all engaged couples.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh and fun March 23, 2006
I'm nearing the end of my wedding planning experience, and I'm getting pretty burnt out on wedding planning books. But I loved this book, and found it a truly helpful breath of fresh air. It is written in a familiar style that makes you feel like you are talking to Jo.

She provides many helpful tips on how to create simple, elegant touches to your wedding with (seemingly) easy-to-do changes (adding a sash to your wedding dress, mini milkshakes in shot glasses). I found quite a few ideas that I would like to incorporate into my wedding. And what's nice is that Jo mentions where she got things (in an unobtrusive way) and seemed to be cost-conscious in her recommendations.

My favorite ideas are all of the gift basket ideas, attaching family photos to the bride's bouquet, unique drink ideas, and little offerings at the ceremony (parasols, shawls, and mini bottles of water).

Plenty of helpful ideas that are within reach of any bride.

5.0 out of 5 stars photographer finds inspiration January 4, 2006
i am a wedding photographer, and thought that this was an amazing resource for my clients. a wedding is the average person's photo opportunity of a lifetime. it is the making and photographing of major life history. this book can really help any bride (and bride and groom!) come up with and execute the kind of fairytale images you see in the magazines. fabulous...makes my job a cakewalk, too.
