Book Description

February 1, 2007

The time is right for an authoritative how-to guide written by and for women. Statistics show that 85% of women are or expect to be solely responsible for a home at some point in their lives. And single women now comprise the second largest group of home buyers, just after married couples. Author JoAnne Liebeler approaches home improvement from a womans perspective, with a blend of expertise and wit that women will appreciate. This book was created specifically for the woman of the house, with detailed explanations of how a house works, how it was built, and how its systems function. JoAnne elaborates on what tools work best for a woman and why, how to succeed at do-it-yourself projects, and when to call in outside help. Everything is covered: Walls, floors, plumbing, electrical, exterior maintenance, and common repairs. And with special sections on pest control and home safety/security issues, this is a must-have reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent DIY Guide, February 21, 2009

This review is from: JoAnne Liebeler's Do It Herself: Everything You Need to Know to Fix, Maintain, and Improve Your Home (Paperback)
While this book fulfils a sensitive and much needed niche for women, it is an excellent basic DIY guide for men too.

The text is admirably free from exasperating jargon, the diagrams are excellent, the explanations are very clear and the instructions are very logically presented. This is particularly helpful to readers with disabilities in that they can easily assess whether or not they may need assitance with a project.

Whether the reader wishes to undertake a range of DIY projects or whether they simply wish to be better informed to discuss projects with tradespeople, this book is ideal.

Highly recommended.

This review is from: JoAnne Liebeler's Do It Herself: Everything You Need to Know to Fix, Maintain, and Improve Your Home (Paperback)
This is a great book for the new female home owner who doesn't want to spend all her time and money at the big-box how-to stores or be at the mercy of professional tradespeople. Written with the special needs of women in mind, especially in regard to safety and environmental concerns, this is a light-hearted, yet serious book that will come to the rescue when you need quick, good answers. Joanne knows what she is talking about and helps you feel good about taking the best care of your biggest investment. Buy it for yourself or give to a friend. Fine Book.
