Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Wulff, one of the world's great fly-casters and author of Joan Wulff's Fly Casting Techniques (Nick Lyons Bks., 1987) offers a woman's perspective on angling. Her expert advice on companionship, clothing, tackle, casting, wading, reading water, approach, presentation, and playing and landing fish is clearly presented in a pleasurable anecdotal style. Conservationist ethic suffuses her work, as well as a belief that one is in "the trout's world" when outdoors. Her late husband Lee, author of Trout on a Fly ( LJ 10/15/86), was the first to promote the "catch and release" philosophy back in 1936. Though any beginning or intermediate fly fisher can profit from this book, women will appreciate its focus on the positive influences of women's fishing. For all angling collections.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great place to start along with your first cast!, May 30, 1999
This review is from: Joan Wulff's Fly Fishing (Hardcover)
Joan Wulff's flyfishing book is the perfect beginning to a long relationship with flyfishing. My husband bought me this book in 1991, and I have referred to it ever since. It's refreshingly written from a women's perspective. All the basics are here: casting, wading, flyrod selection and line differences, clothing recommendations, understanding insects and the various types of fish and flyfishing both fresh and salt water. You'll find nothing pretentious in this book, even though it's written by the best known female flyfisher worldwide. Trying flyfishing? You had better buy this book! Reading it while you are learning will enhance your enjoyment and understanding of the sport.
