5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive Concierto de Aranjuez recording.
Julian Bream, is without a doubt, the "great" classical guitarist since Segovia. Not Williams, not Parkening, not Romero; none of artists come close to Bream's sense of phrasing and timing. Bream's is one of those individuals that only comes around every half-century. This concierto, which is a "litmus" test for guitar, testifies to Bream's magic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent musician, mediocre recording
There is no doubt that Julian Bream is a great guitarist. But in a concerto, even a great guitarist needs an orchestra and conductor that is highly attuned to their playing, not subservient, which seemed to me to be the case here. Worse yet, this is one of the most poorly sound mixed recordings I've heard in a long time. At times the sound of the guitar was so low I...

At times the sound of the guitar was so low I had to turn up the volume, only to have the orchestra come blasting in at high volume. The mix is so poor that it calls attention to itself and detracts from the music. A player more "in concert" with the conductor and orchestra, and mixed more subtly and effectively would produce a far better recording, no matter how great Bream is.
