I speak at social media conferences all over the country. My main audience is business owners and CMOs, but in this economy I always get several questions about using social media to find a job (or even better, to get recruited).

I had compiled a list of blog posts that were somewhat useful, but this book is THE ultimate resource for using social media to find a job. I have already recommended it to a few dozen people.

These are the three reasons I liked this book so much:
- It's easy to read and extremely well organized
- It uses a very hands-on approach. It shows you exactly what you need to do, step-by-step.
- It has many screenshots and to-do lists, making the information really easy to digest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expert Advice September 5, 2011
By Asa
I have been learning everything out there--and spending thousands--about social media, online presence, building a personal profile, etc, etc., for about three years now.
Though I am not job searching myself, I found the book full of little gems that I did not get in any video courses, online training or anywhere else. Plus it organizes the otherwise chaotic fragments of information on the subject and makes it truly workable.

I am also suggesting this book to several out of work friends...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for ANY age group September 24, 2011
Length: 1:57 Mins
I highly recommend this book to people of any age group. It's a great resource for anyone on the job market or on the verge of entering the job market. It's ALSO worth reading even if you're settled into your career and NOT on the job market because it's better to get your social media house in order BEFORE you need it for a job hunt....and this book will guide you through every step of the way. I explain more in the video.

Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I'm generally a big fan of the Dummies books and this one does not disappoint. I was wondering how anyone could possibly fill a whole book on this subject but the author provides a highly structured approach to all the major networks and how to leverage these to create job opportunities. The writing style is easy to read and the the topics are well organized, providing plenty of screenshots and step-by-step instructions for even the most casual social media user. Unlike many job seeking books that focus too much on the offline world, I think anyone should be able to find opportunities on these networks after reading this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Job Searching with Social Media for Dummies September 7, 2011
Clearly written - practical ideas - with this book, the confusing world of social media is simplified.
As an older person, trying to maximize the potential for success in finding employment, I found this an easy to understand guide to how to use things like facebook, twitter, linked in, etc. Age related negatives are addressed directly and honestly. Concerns and fears are addressed as well. This is a whole new world for so many of us and this book really helped me understand it better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Turns job search into a positive and proactive experience September 4, 2011
As part of my work in a career center, I facilitate job search workshops. Most of my participants come into the workshops frustrated and overwhelmed with their job search, as they feel like their online job applications go into some internet black hole and that they simply can't compete with other jobseekers. I introduced social media as a vital tool in the job search, and consulted with Joshua on the content and featured his blog and tips during my workshops. The response of my participants after the workshop was encouraging. As one participant commented, it was as if he was given a map, and that he knew better how to spend his time online and what direction he needed to go. Participants were then eager to subscribe to Joshua's blog, and learn more. And now that Joshua's book has finally come out, I have even more of a resource to share. Joshua's book is just like Joshua himself - positive and proactive. As I read through the book, I felt encouraged to try many of the tips he offered, as there were websites that I was unfamiliar with, but recognized the value of. I was eager to share with others, as Joshua's advice can work whether one is unemployed or employed and looking for a career change. The tone of the book is an antidote to the despair of grim unemployment statistics, as Joshua offers helpful strategies. I am definitely recommending this book for our career center and for all our clients.

For the last six months I have been studying personal branding and online reputation management and their best practices. Obviously, I was intrigued by this book when it came out and decided to see what it was all about. I know Joshua and know that he is very knowledgeable in the world of Job Search and Social media- but I have to say that he has really outdone himself with this book. Not only does it help readers establish a personal brand, but it gives them the information they need to leverage social media in a way that will help them instead of hurt them. He provides incredible tools that give you a better understanding of the world of personal branding and even goes as far as to list off the common mistakes that people make while using social media (trust me, more people make these mistakes than you can imagine).

If you're entering the job market for the first time as a college graduate, entering it again because of the job market, or simply looking for a new job and do not have a personal brand or know what social media is- I recommend Joshua's book as the first thing you should read to get you started.
