What they SHOULD teach you in school...but don't,
By A Customer
This review is from: Job Smarts for Twentysomethings (Paperback)
While most career centers show you how to write a resume and tell you basically not to pick your nose in an interview, this gave me the straight scoop on how to get in doors and what to do once I got the job. I still use it as a handbook. Awesome for your first job.

Great Book for Recent Grads,
By A Customer
This review is from: Job Smarts for Twentysomethings (Paperback)
As a recent college graduate with a degree in communications I felt confident that I would find a job immediately upon graduation. Unfortunately with today's economy I was told again and again by companies that they were on a temporary hiring freeze but would "keep me in mind". A friend of mine recommended this book to me. Upon reading it I was inspired to keep trying and to work hard to make myself stand out among the other applicants so my resume didn't fall through the cracks. I think this book is a great resource for any recent graduate entering the job market.

Terrific book for young career minded people,
By A Customer
This review is from: Job Smarts for Twentysomethings (Paperback)
This book has helped me quite a bit. It reinforced conventional career wisdom like "treat everyone well" and "accept any position to get in the door." The book also gave me new ideas. I began reading more than the local newspaper because of Bradley and this has made me a much more educated worker. He recommends reading the Wall Street Journal and USA Today everyday. He also gives lots of credit to those who came before him and I really like his reading list at the back of the book. I read many of those books which also turned out to be terrific for me and my career. Scratch that - it has been terrific for my entire life! Get this book now. It is well worth the price.

THIS BOOK WILL PUT YOU AHEAD OF OTHERS IN THE JOB SEARCH!
This was a very informative book! It is written in easy to understand language. Many examples of others and their successful job searching techinques and valuable tips are given.
The section on Networking and Interviewing is excellently written and important for job seekers.
I used many tips from the book and as a junior in college I landed myself an internship in a Fortune 500 company! It can help you too!

Good reference for first-time job seekers!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Job Smarts for Twentysomethings (Paperback)
I found this book to be quite enjoyable and easy to read. The author gives examples of other people's past mistakes (including his own) and successes. Richardson gives great tips and an overall summary of how to go about landing that first job and what to expect once you start. I have been working at my job for one year and still refer to it from time to time. I highly recommend this book.

get a job over the phone - literally,
By
This review is from: Jobsmarts for Twenty-somethings (Audio Cassette)
My dad gave me this book for college graduation in 1993 - no $ and parties for me. After working and traveling for a few years, I came back to the DC area. Needing full-time employment, I emailed my resume to anything open in the paper. I had 3-5 requests for an interview, one being in an industry I really knew nothing about (elevators). The position was for some service help in the office. After setting up a phone interview with the hiring service manager, I marked some pages about interviews and questions and had such a successful interview over the phone (I could hear the surprise at personable questions about things like daily lunch routines) that I was hired - OVER THE PHONE - to a just-that-conversation-created middle manager position and successfully stayed with that company for 3 years until I was headhunted away. THIS IS THE BEST RESULT I'VE HAD FROM ANY SELF-HELP BOOK! I've been looking for it for years, as I loaned it out, since I still constantly find little nuggets popping into my head in business situations.

The Real Deal on the Real World !!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Job Smarts for Twentysomethings (Paperback)
Awesome!!! Too many career books for people starting out are out of touch or patronizing, but JobSmarts tells it exactly like it is. I used it to help me get a job during my senior year, and now that I'm working I still rely on it to get me through things at work. Get it.

THE Handbook for Your First Job!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Job Smarts for Twentysomethings (Paperback)
I've read a ton of career books by burned out boomers or professors, but this is the first book that told me EXACTLY what I need to do to get and KEEP the job I want. Richardson covers things that nobody talks about in your company training or that older employees take for granted. A HUGE HELP. The guy is funny and has great info.

I used this book to help a friend get back into the job market. We updated her resume and cover letter over a holiday weekend and she got the job in TWO weeks. Richardson knows how to summarize details and specifics for those of us who want to read the book and go on with our real lives.

Sorry, but don't waste your time,

I hate to add my "two cents" to what is apparently a concensus that this books kinda sucks, but I have to agree that after reading about 2/3 of the way through this book, I'm pretty sorry I spend good money on it. I guess I was sort of attracted to the "for twentysomethings" label, but honestly it I can't imagine it would help anyone who has more than a high school education.
