Long Reach Comfort Wipe,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Long Reach Comfort Wipe (Health and Beauty)
Originally written about "Easywipe" (same tool on Amazon) about a month or so ago.(Folks, please trust me when I tell you that I understand the "uncomfortableness" of this topic but, it is sometimes a necessary evil. SO,) Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a very, very useful, and sometimes necessary, aid for the continued self help (respect) of people who, for whatever reason, have great difficulty in cleaning themselves after using the toilet. I currently weigh 500lbs and my arm is no longer long enough to reach where it is sometimes needed, I have tried several "aids" and this is the best by far. Both the handle and the paper ends are covered with what seems to be a type of gripping rubber (I do not know if it is latex on not, sorry). This rubber material allows for a secure hand hold as well as a non-slip surface for the paper. The tool is of sufficient width as to give good coverage which may prevent some of the need for multiple attempts. The length is definitely adequate for people in my situation. The tool is curved so that it seems to "fit" the angles needed for the most comfortable use and positioning. DO NOT try to use this tool from the side, only the front (please read the provided instruction paper). I have noted a slight difficulty--it takes a little practice in getting the paper into the slot provided, I use my finger turned so that the thinner portion is used to insert the paper ends, this seems to work best for me. All you need to do is be a little patient and figure it out for yourself. You also need to be careful and hold the handle and not the "button" that is used to release the paper as it doesn't seem sturdy enough to take any sideways pressure. The shape, holding ability of the rubber, width, and length make this a very good, comfortable, and easy tool to use. I highly recommend this item for its intended use. Especially for my large friends. Take care. UPDATE: 1/21/2010 I have read the other reviews and I must disagree. The tool I received seems to be rather well made and sturdy, that said--I want to update so that others may make a well informed choice. My previous review is (in my opinion) correct but, I have located some possible difficulties if someone isn't prepared for them: 1. Follow the directions for paper placement and use--the problem (this sounds like the problem the lady complaining obout being messy may be having) is that it can be interesting unwrapping the paper after use. Patience and trial and error got me past this quickly. Wrap the paper around the head and continue down the handle far enough to avoid getting the end of the paper messy, this will allow you to be able to unwrap much more simply. 2. The tool is alittle wide for anything other than a general wipe--this leads to the need for multiple wipes, (alittle bit of a hassle, no more than that)--the way I deal with this is to use paper until it comes out without excessive waste on it, I then switch to a washcloth I have specified for this use that I have soaked in warm water, the washcloth is then used with the wipe tool to complete the process. Again, trial and error will get you where you are more or less comfortable using the tool. 3. Since the point of this tool is to get clean, I will share with you a process I have found to help me greatly--I place my left foot on the side of my bathtub to make it easier for me to reach and provide better access, this took some practice to master but, once I did it was much easier to ensure proper cleaning. ---I realize that this may seem bothersome, but really it isn't. Be prepared to use trial and error and you will get it figured out so that it works best for you. ---The reason I am going in such detail folks is because I am a 500 lb man in a world that is either disgusted or incredulous when they see me at 2 or 3 in the morning shopping, in an effort to avoid people. Either way, those of us in similar situations need to help each other with making life a little more pleasant. I realize that those people not in this situation may be shocked by my frankness because we all know that we all choose to be this way, or are to lazy to excercise, or eat to much, and it is just soooooo much fun being morbidly obese--ain't it folks? ---The tool works for what it is intended for, use trial and error. UPDATE (AUGUST 15, 2011): --- AN ADDRESS AND A SINCERE APOLOGY TO THE ELDERLY LADY MENTIONED IN A NEGATIVE REVIEW --- I HAVE BEEN OCCASIONALLY RE-READING THE REVIEWS FOR THIS PRODUCT AND I AM SOMEWHAT SURPRISED AT SOME OF THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS. I WILL READILY ADMIT THAT THIS PRODUCT COULD BE RE-MADE WITH HEAVIER DUTY MATERIAL BUT IT WOULD THEN COST THE 35 TO 40 BUCKS SOME OF THE OTHERS DO. (AND ALL OF THEN ARE NOT MUCH HEAVIER DUTY) THE MANUFACTURER HAS TO UTILIZE MATERIALS THAT KEEP THE COST DOWN. THE REASONS I AM HERE DISCUSSING THESE THINGS ARE SIMPLE: 1. I HAVE BEEN USING THE SAME COMFORT WIPE FOR ABOUT 1 YEAR NOW. THE BUTTON DID BREAK BUT THAT WAS DUE TO MY TRYING TO USE IT AS PART OF THE HANDLE (WHICH IT IS NOT MADE FOR) AND NOT FROM SIMPLY PRESSING IT. THIS ACTUALLY TURNED OUT TO BE A GOOD THING FOR ME BECAUSE IT SHOWED ME THAT I DON'T NEED IT. THE 'PAPER SLOT' IS SUFFICIENT TO HOLD THE PAPER UNTIL YOU CAN GET IT WRAPPED AROUND THE HEAD SO IT HOLDS ITSELF, THEN SPIRAL DOWN THE HANDLE AS DESCRIBED EARLIER SO THAT THE END AT THE HAND GRIP REMAINS CLEAN. 2. I DO SINCERELY APOLOGIZE IF MY REVIEW LED ANY WOMAN INTO CAUSING HERSELF DISCOMFORT OR SOME SUCH THING. I AM NOT A WOMAN SO I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH ALL OF THE HYGIENE INTRICACIES INVOLVED. PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGIES LADIES. AS I STATED IN MY PREVIOUS REVIEW, THIS PRODUCT DOES REQUIRE THE 'THROUGH THE LEGS' PROCEDURE AS OPPOSED TO THE 'FROM THE SIDE' METHOD. 3. I REALIZE THAT THIS COMPLETE REVIEW IS LONG BUT, IT IS WITH GOOD REASON. THE PEOPLE WHO NEED THE ASSISTANCE PROVIDED BY THIS PRODUCT SHOULD HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION AVAILABLE SO THEY CAN MAKE A MORE INFORMED BUYING DECISION. 4. IT HAS JUST COME TO ME WHY THE ELDERLY LADY HAD SUCH A PROBLEM USING COMFORT WIPE -- MANY OF THE OLDER LADIES AT CHURCH HAVE GRIPPING PROBLEMS. THEY MAY LACK THE FOREARM AND/OR HAND STRENGTH REQUIRED AS THE WIPER DOES REQUIRE SOME STRENGTH AND LEVERAGE TO BE USED PROPERLY. I AGAIN APOLOGIZE FOR NOT ANTICIPATING THIS PROBLEM. SO, 5. AS A RESULT OF THE SITUATION IN #4 I WOULD SUGGEST THAT SOMEONE WHO HAS GRIPPING DIFFICULTIES, DUE TO A LACK OF STRENGTH OR SOMETHING LIKE ARTHRITIS, SHOULD, PERHAPS, BE LOOKING FOR A MORE MECHANICAL MEANS OF CLEANING THEMSELVES. TO CLOSE, I WOULD LIKE TO REITERATE THAT, IF USED PROPERLY AND PRACTICED, THIS IS A VERY GOOD PRODUCT FOR ITS INTENDED USE AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE WITH ME IN THE WRITING OF THIS REVIEW. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE REVIEW BEFORE MAKING A DECISION, THANK YOU.

If you need a toilet aid, this is the one to buy (comparison within),

I had back surgery so twisting is not possible. When I was in rehabilitation facility they recommended Self-Wipe Bathroom Toilet Aid which I purchased. Then I decided to get a second aid so I would have one in each bathroom and purchased this product. It works much better! It grips the paper better the other one, the rubbery head (rather than smooth plastic) gives you a better wipe, it uses less toilet paper, you never get your hands dirty because of how the ejection button works. This is a simpler, cheaper option, that is engineered better! Update 7/8/2011 Almost a year later this tool still works well. I even take it with me when I travel.

not made well,

This review is from: Long Reach Comfort Wipe (Health and Beauty)
I really needed this tool and was excited to get it! I followed the directions to the tee. It worked wellfor a week, then rubber holding the paper tore. Spring release stuck closed and had to throw it away. I am a plumber and have a good mechanical mind and would redesign it. great Idea, but cheaply made. I will not buy anymore from a catalog or products that are made from china. What has happened to America?

Broken dominant wrist and what to do?,
By

This review is from: Long Reach Comfort Wipe (Health and Beauty)
I broke my dominant wrist and discovered that hygiene using the other hand was impossible! I bought the Long Reach Comfort Wipe feeling very skeptical that it would make things easier and was so pleasantly surprised that I bought a second one to keep at my office while I was healing. This works exactly as stated and paired with the Cottonelle Fresh Flushable Moist Wipes, renews my confidence that I can walk away from the RestRoom without any worries.I highly recommend this product to anyone having problems with their non-dominant hand and hygiene!

I'm left handed, my arm has been broken and I have a fake or artifical bone from my shoulder to my elbow. While in the rehab facility I was in, the nurses aide, pulled it out of the socket, and ripped the stitches from the bone by my elbow to the fake bone, needless to say, I can't use my arm at all, I am now waiting for another surgery. I have never been able to wipe myself with my right hand. I am also aprox 100 lbs overweight, so this adds to the problem. I found and ordered the idealworks longreach on amazon, ordered it and had a heck of a time with it at first. I tried wrapping the paper around the end like I thought it said and never could get it to release without touching it with my hand. now, what I do is take like 8 or 10 sheets, keep in mind these are single layer sheets fold them in half, and stick one end in the slot, wrap the rest of the folded paper one time around to cover the blue thingy that you use to wipe with and wipe my butt. my rear-end gets cleaned, if I think its not, then I will give it another wipe, when done wiping, I push the button and WA-LA!!!the dirty paper drops into the toilet perfectly, you dont have to touch the dirty paper or anything. you might have to push the button more then once to release the paper, but do it easily. it will come off. wrapping the paper around and around the end of the tool it's self doesn't work well, you end up having to use your hands to help remove the dirty paper. and yes, you need to wipe from the front as the directions say to do, lifting your leg helps get a better wipe also.. the aide works, I've had mine for a few weeks now, and if and whan it breaks or quits working, I'll write and let you all know how long they last. all I do know is that this same tool costs over $60.00 in some medical stores, I've checked around.

Not Useful for the Morbidly Obese,

The instructions suggest you use while sitting on the toilet. Many morbidly obese people are so thick that there is no room to insert anything between the front of the toilet and yourself. That leaves stooping and approaching from the back side. The wand has the reach for it and the toilet paper clings to the head surprisingly well, but the head is too wide for a good thorough clean. Overall poorly designed especially for obese people.

End An Embarrassing Problem,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Long Reach Comfort Wipe (Health and Beauty)
Well Amazon asked me to review this product or "Share an Image." Well, obviously I won't be doing that! This is a delicate problem that overweight or people with back problems don't discuss. However, at times it is very difficult to wipe when you cannot bend over because of either weight or pain. The comfort wipe solves this embarassing problem and will provide the cleanliness you want. It takes a little time to figure out, but don't give up because once you get the hang of it, it just becomes a natural part of your daily routine.
