Editorial Reviews

Review

Jobs And The Military Spouse is specifically designed to assist the spouse of a mobile military man (or woman) to find satisfying jobs and careers compatible with the phenomena of military transfers. It shows how to figure out what to do, plan a job search, explore employment options, create an outstanding resume, interview with ease, negotiate job offers, managing one's career, and produce winning cover letters. It also reveals the three characteristics employers most seek in their employees, how to develop a powerful job objective that grabs attention, job options possible for military spouses, how to use the internet to find a job, the most effective ways to attend job fairs, and a comprehensive directory of resources for military spouses worldwide. -- Midwest Book Review

2.0 out of 5 stars No different than any other job hunting book..., August 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Jobs and the Military Spouse: Married, Mobile, and Motivated For the New Job Market (Paperback)
I was under the impression this book would have specifics that are unique to the military spouse on job hunting and finding the best careers which mesh with that of a military sponsor (other than nursing, teaching and joining the military yourself). Other than throwing in some depressing information about how people won't hire military spouses because they move too often, she wrote a book that could have just been titled "How To Find A Job," throwing in the words "military spouse" every now and then. While this information is good for any job hunting person, she does not really give enough information that makes this process any easier for a military spouse. If you want a good job finding book get "What Color Is Your Parachute." This one won't help you any more than it or any others just because it's title has "Military Spouse" in it. She neglects to mention in her book that it's so difficult to find a decent job near a military installation because so many spouses are willing to work for minimum wage if you'll just give them a title.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Job Hunting Resource, November 25, 1998
This review is from: Jobs and the Military Spouse: Married, Mobile, and Motivated For the New Job Market (Paperback)
"Jobs and the Military Spouse" is a must-have primer on job hunting for military spouses. It is a great reference on traditional methods and the essential fundamentals for clarifying your goals and initiating a job search. I highly recommend it to military spouses new to the employment arena, or those needing to brush up on their basic career planning skills.

Janet Farley's Jobs And The Military Spouse appears in its updated second edition to cover the problems of military spouses who face exciting new job opportunities as they participate in the modern job market. Military spouses used to work below their abilities in the support of their mates; this tells them how to locate satisfying jobs by taking advantage of a network of contacts and compiling an inviting career history.
