Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Ages 3-6. With big color photographs of smiling children dressed up as firefighter, ballet dancer, surgeon, lawyer, mail carrier, pilot, and many other kinds of workers, this large-size volume is a cheerful introduction to the world of work. Each page is about one trade or profession: a portrait of a child is the focus, and then there are facts about tools, equipment, and the workplace, with small, captioned pictures of adults on the job. The models are posed and self-consciously cute, but the cast is multicultural, the career choices are non-sexist (there's a waiter and a waitress), and girls and boys trying out various adult roles will find facts and images here to help them choose. 5.0 out of 5 stars Community helpers and their tools and places of work, September 25, 2003
By
This review is from: Jobs People Do (Hardcover)
This was an excellent book for introducing not only the community helpers, but the tools they use and the places where they work. My second graders were able to list the names of the helpers, but seeing the real-life children dressed in uniforms or typical dress for that helper really attracted attention. Not only does this book list the helpers, but it appealed to my children because the models were about the same age. It exposed them to the types of tools used and was a big help when they wanted to spell a type of tool--they started using those research skills to find the correct spellings. This is an excellent resource!
