5.0 out of 5 stars Jody is the awesomest
I think Jody's cd is the awesomest and it is nothing like Phil's cd. Jody wrote this cd about the painful reflections of love over the last 10 years unlike Phil who took his lifetime. Jody's contains rock from the 70's and Phil's is kinda like pop. Hugh differece.

3.0 out of 5 stars This Newsboys Friend should have stayed.
Jody Davis Is GREAT with his guitar, but the vocals push it just a little. I personally think he shuold just stay with background vocals in the newsboys. Number 1.It's where Jody belongs, number 2. It's just what he is best at(in the group I mean). Don't get me wrong,Jody has extreme talent in his voice and definitley in his electric guitar playing. So perhaps I'm...

4.0 out of 5 stars Jody sets himself apart, September 15, 2001

Yet another Newsboy puts the spotlight on a solo project outside the band. Jody Davis' self-titled debut exhibits his wide range of abilities, including songwriting, guitar and singing. His choice of music is rather different than the typical Newsboys sound, displaying Davis' will to make his own sound heard. The modern rock/pop tracks are heavily laced with guitar, drums and bass, with the addition of horns in some songs, contributing to the unique sound.
The subject matter of his songs never strays from a firm hope in God, seeking His presence and putting our faith in Him. His vocals are impressive, with a wide range not ever heard on any Newsboys album. A song that definitely stands out is the opening "Believe," a song with an edgy, rocking sound that sets the stage for the rest of the album. The following tracks are all enjoyable, and it's easy to listen to the entire album without skipping a song. He puts forth a substantial record, but his release may still be overpowered by his band mate Phil Joel's release, even though it's a different sound. Davis goes beyond the constraints of the Newsboys' traditional sound, creating his own sound that sets him apart from the other guys in the band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jody rocks!, May 10, 2001
This review is from: Jody Davis (Audio CD)
Dude, Jody was totally awesome on his cd! His lyrics are so beautiful but you can rock to them at the same time! It was something totally different from what the Newsboys are which is totally awesome! He used his great vocal range and his powerful guitar skills and there you go! a great cd! Jody rocks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Newsboys solo album, June 28, 2011
This review is from: Jody Davis (Audio CD)
With Peter Furler releasing on fire and Phil Joel's stellar solo outings .. It seems a Bit Unfair that the best solo album by ANY newsboys member was passed over by the general public . This album from start to finish proves that Jody davis is not only the best muscian in the newsboys he also has a the strongest voice and writing as a writer MR. Davis is Top notch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't pick on Helmet!, January 12, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Jody Davis (Audio CD)
Okay I think some people are being a little unfair to Jody aka Helmet (his Newsboys nickname). Sure his music doesn't sound as much like the Newsboys but that doesn't mean that it isn't great! The only thing that might bug some people is that he sounds a LOT like Brenden Urie, who is the lead singer from Panic! At The Disco, but don't worry he's not yelpy like the latter is.

Recommended for people who want to rock out for God =)

I'm not really 13, I just don't have an account, I use my dad's.

This is a great Latin touch! I love this CD, even though most people find Jody's voice a little annoying. I think that he does a great job and I wouldn't want anyone else to sing for him. I can listen to this CD every day for a week. It's definitely my most listened to CD. Jody is a great guitarist, as he proves in many of the riffs. I love the whole CD and I really don't have a favorite track. I hope Jody makes another CD sometime!

So perhaps I'm changing my point of veiw about him. Maybe this c.d is good for a practice sort of thing, that way in his next album he will have some experiance and he will know what people think of him. Although I must I am Ex-tremely disoponted that his tunes sound absoulutly nothing like the newsboys tunes. But who am I to judge a great guy with talent like you've never seen? Listen to it for yourself and see.=-)

2.0 out of 5 stars Jody Davis, back to Jody Davis, March 27, 2001
By A Customer

The first listen automatically requires another; to get over the preliminary shock. "Is that all?" would be a first thought and then perhaps "You've got to be kidding," would be a second. There's been considerably less hype about the release of Newsboys' guitarist Jody Davis' album than that of Phil Joel's from the beginning. He seems like[If I may quote him] "Barney Rubble, always in Fred's shadow." Jody Davis is left, it seems, to fend for himself, and consequently is trying too hard to woo his listeners with his extensive[and impressive] vocal range and his mighty guitar licks. But the lyrics just can't handle the excitement. The album leaves a haunting sense of desertion, ringing with tones of the "Baby Band." Did the Newsboys leave their funny haired little friend hanging? It's a rough truth, but the Newsboys individually are just not as strong as they are the Newsboys corporately. I personally was extremely disappointed and had anticipated something of much higher caliber. Newsboys' bassist Phil Joel's record was a strong reflection of the years he spent with the Newsboys, musically and lyrically, but was still definitely his own. Davis' album, on the other hand, is not even vaguely Newsboys reminiscent, which is surprising. But whether that is a strength or weakness, it cannot be said. One thing is for sure, "Jody does what he does, and he does it extremely well..."-Peter Furler.
