Space Travel, with all its excitement and thrills, fired the imaginations of GI Joe fans in the early 1960's as they dreamed of one day climbing inside a Mercury spacecraft and rocketing in orbit. In 1966, the GI Joe Astronaut Suit and Space Capsule was "out of this world" excitement to an entire generation of boys. According to Hasbro catalogs, the space capsule was actually designed from "Mercury Control" blueprints. The realistic space uniform featured a silver metallic fabric "as used by U.S. Astronauts in real space flights." This reproduction of the Action Astronaut accurately captures all the realistic and authentic details of this classic figure. G.I.
