This book keeps its promise.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Joe Dimaggio : The Promise (Hardcover)
Joe Carrieri takes you into the locker room. More importantly, he takes you into a young boy's heart and shows the reader how an unappraochable, at times, superstar can leave a lifelong impression on that heart. The author's approach keeps the reader on seat's edge, so that it is difficult to leave the next chapter for another day. Buy it, and you will learn life lessons worth infinitely more than the price of the book.

A Great Story,
By A Customer
This review is from: Joe Dimaggio : The Promise (Hardcover)
It was an absolute pleasure reading THE PROMISE. This book is about Joe DiMaggio, a truly great ball player, who kept his promise to a young bat boy. L.E. Davis, a customer from California, simply misses the point in his book review. Indeed, the author does not set forth DiMaggio's flaws and he shouldn't! He describes his experiences with the Yankee great. The REAL STORY is that Joe kept his promise to Joe. If your seeking to learn about his faults, read something else. But, who wants to ? Certainly not our children. Anyway, in DiMaggio's defense, last time I checked, only one man was perfect and He lived a long, long time ago. Mr. Carrieri I applaud your efforts and thanks for sharing your experience. I love the pictures!

A MUST READ!,

This review is from: Joe Dimaggio : The Promise (Hardcover)
This book by Joe Carrieri is a must read not only for Joe Dimaggio fans, but for those people who enjoy reading about real life experiences. It offers an insight to the "other side" of a great baseball legend-Joe Dimaggio. The book explores a bond between one of the most remarkable players ever to have played the game and a teenage bat-boy who idolized and forged a special relationship with him. The "Promise" made to each other, by Joe Dimaggio and the author Joe Carreri, is revealed skillfully by the author.

Thank You Mr Carrieri For Sharing Your Dream Come True,
By Mr.Ray Kahoud (usa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Joe Dimaggio : The Promise (Hardcover)
Thank You Joe Carrieri for sharing with me this evening a part of your life that you lived, loved and are now offering to the entire world in your new book JOE DIMAGGIO:THE PROMISE.I have, in my lifetime, been given many different tips on various investments that never seem to come to fruition. However, a SURE TIP that you can take to the bank is the following: If you want to feel what it would be like to have a dream come true and then to be so grateful for that gift of life that you needed to tell the whole world...and now have done exactly that...stop tonight and pick up this book. Joe Carrieri was not just a Yankee Batboy. He was a boy with a dream. He made a promise to his Grammar School principal who allowed him to take the job conditioned that he learn the secret of greatness and then write about his experiences. Well, Mr.Principal, because you bent the rules and allowed Joe Carrieri to leave school early and take the bat boy position for the New York Yankees.....millions of people, both young and old, male and female can now read and feel what it was like to be surrounded by some of the world's greatest heroes. This book was not written just for baseball fans but written for the the world as a "Promise" to a friend and judging some of the other chapters by content one would have to conclude that this writer has a great deal of wonderful life experiences that will hold you to this book until the last page is read. In this book DiMaggio is portrayed as an unselfish team player. He knew what it took to win and with his bat, glove and magnetic spirit drove his team into ten World Series Champioships. Joe Carrieri stood at home plate congratulating baseball greats like Mickey Mantle,Yogi Berra,Whitey Ford and Joe DiMaggio who knew Joe to be much more than a batboy. They all took time to teach and help any way they could. The way this book is written, the reader can hear the cheering of the fans, feel the excitement as the Yankees win five consecutive World Series and then understand that The Promise is really about living life to the fullest and sharing your special gifts with the world. I left this book knowing that "LEGENDS NEVER DIE" but also knowing that the author was sending all of us a message...something very important....how to overcome your fears, how to make your own decisions with confidence and most of all to always believe in yourself. Mr.Carrieri, I'm sure that as an attorney and child adoption authority, father of six children and a husband....you are certainly scheduled each minute of every day. You promised the reader a wonderful uplift and a feeling that we would want to tell others about and you most certainly fulfilled that PROMISE...TO US...TO BROTHER COLUMBO, TO JOE DIMAGGIO AND TO YOURSELF. P.S. I will make sure I pick up your other book "Searching For Heroes"..The Quest Of A Yankee Batboy.God Bless You for caring about people.

joe dimaggio-56,

This review is from: Joe Dimaggio : The Promise (Hardcover)
this book hits a home run in every category.Dimaggio was a complex person, shy, conservative and yet he married Mariyn Monroe-he was a man with a mystique who captured the nreve of americans when america needed a hero. His 56 game hitting streak will never be broke. This was a great book. It was about imaggio, but so much more. It is about batboys joe an ralph an their family growing up in the south bronx. It is about brother columbo who guided young joe. It has character. The promises speak of an era when your word was your bond. Dimaggio kept his promise to young joe and that meant everything to him. Dimaggio did not disappoint his batboy and Carrieri has not dissappointed the reader. This is a great inspirational book. I loved it.

A Baseball Hero,
By mattty (south huntington N. Y.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Joe Dimaggio : The Promise (Hardcover)
I am a great Baseball fan and always fasinated by Dimaggio. When I strated reading the reviews I read the review by mr. davis critising the author for not revealing dimaggios flaws. I read the book and loved it It was about a boy who received a gift from Dimaggio. Dimaggio showed kindness to the then batboy and that is what the author wrote about nothing more. The author paints a picture of a baseball hero who kept his promise. IT IS A BOOK ABOUT THE BATBOYS INTERACTION WITH HIS HERO NOT YOURS MR. DAVIS AND THAT IS TOO BAD FOR YOU. THIS BOOK SHOULD BR READ BY EVERY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT.

THE WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH,
By A Customer
This review is from: Joe Dimaggio : The Promise (Hardcover)
CARRIERI BRINGS THE READER BACK INTO A TIME WHERE BASEBALL WAS PURER AND THE PLAYERS FELT A CONNECTION TO NOT ONLY THE TEAM BUT ALSO THE FANS AND THE CITY...FIRST AND FOREMOST THE PLAYERS WERE BASICALLY GROWN UP CHILDREN WHERE A DAY AT THE PARK WAS ENJOYABLE AND THE PLAYERS WERE NOT SO INVOLVED WITH SIDE DEALS AS THEY ARE TODAY...IN RESPONSE TO L.E. DAVIS'S REVIEW - APRIL 10, 2000 - CARRIERI DID NOT PUT DIMAGGIO UP ON A PEDESTAL AS A MAN OFF THE FIELD BUT RATHER AS A BALLPLAYER THAT ALWAYS GAVE IT HIS ALL IN FEAR THAT MAYBE SOMEONE HAD NOT SEEN HIM PLAY BEFORE...AN EXCELLENT BOOK AND A MUST READ FOR ALL AGES.
