5.0 out of 5 stars It's almost as great as seeing them live, January 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Joe Dirt Car (Audio CD)
I'm lucky enough to live in Wisconsin, just an hour away from the BoDeans hometown of Waukesha, so I get the opportunity to see them in concert quite a bit. I always have this disc in my car to listen to before and after concerts, and anytime I'm in BoDeans concert withdrawl! Nothing is as good as seeing them live (WHAT A SHOW!!), but this disc really gives to a glimpse of what they are all about...some great all-American rock-n-roll. Everyone should have at least one BoDeans CD (I have them all), and if you can only get one, this is the one to get!

4.0 out of 5 stars Bo-Dacious, December 27, 2000

It's impossible not to like this album -- and in the time-tested trials of modern times and parenthood, I have to admit that it was when my children punched the eject button on my CD player and disappeared with the first of the "Joe Dirt Car" CDs that I realized that this was not only a vintage recording, but also a sure-fire hit. When the 11 and 9 year-old crowd confiscate your CD, the artists must be onto something.

So what's so great? The live album, obviously, is a part of it; also the great possiblities of an album with applause and audience interactions. There are enough strong words to give some pause to the parental set -- but the heck with that, this is just great rock 'n' roll. Whatever has happened to these guys? I've loved (equally, but differently) Black and White and, now, Joe Dirt Car. Dig in and dig hard; it's fun music, though the lyrics remain obscure enough to give passing pause.

We'll figure them out, eventually. And if not, it's those chords that will endure.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exceptional live offering, September 14, 2001

This review is from: Joe Dirt Car (Audio CD)
I don't understand why this band is not immensely popular. Their music contains beauty, emotion, fire, and everything you could possibly want in a song. This is a tight, musically superior offering that includes some of their finest work performed in an environment where the bond between performer and audience is obvious and conveyed. I've never had the opportunity to see this band live, but should I get that opportunity, I certainly won't pass it up. If you want good rock'n'roll, fine song writing, meaningful lyrics and top notch musicians all performed as well as can be - this CD is for you. I bought it and it's become one I can listen to over and over. IT'S THAT GOOD.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best live albums I've heard., July 26, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Joe Dirt Car (Audio CD)
This is the best live album I've ever heard! It has some rockers such as Say About Love, Ballad of Jenny Rae, Good Work, Ooh, She's My Baby, and a list of others. At the same time, it also includes some which are scaled down, like Naked, She's A Runaway, Fadaway, Far Away From My Heart, and some others. Some are done very different then the studio versions such as Go Slow Down, Feed The Fire and Paradise. << >> They do use fowl language on some songs and the talking between songs.
This album is great!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Mom of all people turned me on to this CD....., January 11, 2003
This review is from: Joe Dirt Car (Audio CD)
I am a true lover of the "not so famous" bands who truly have that edge that turns me on! This CD is just that. My Mom turned me on to this CD a couple years ago, and ever since then, I can honestly say that it is one of my favorites! (FYI-my Mom is a cool 61 years old). She was fortunate enough to see the Bodeans live in Boulder,CO about a year ago, and she still talks about it to this day.
When you listen to this CD, you don't know whether to concentrate on the instrumentals, the lyrics, or the "kick ass" time the crowd seems to be having. I truly get jealous of those who were fortunate enough to participate in such a truly awesome compilation of songs! I'm looking forward to catching the Bodeans live myself...definately on my "to do" list! I had to promise my 21 year old daughter to take her along. This goes to show you that this music is enjoyed by music lovers of all ages.
Great CD, great band, great time....it doesn't get any better than this!

5.0 out of 5 stars BoDeans get you jumping up and down and dancing all night, April 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Joe Dirt Car (Audio CD)
Joe Dirt Car captures the BoDeans at their finest moment, live. The album starts off with the mellow "Idaho" and mixes nicely with BoDeans hits from their previous albums giving the listener a sense of being there. Joe Dirt Car brings the liveliness of the concert experience and at the same time creating an intimacy that the BoDeans always supply. This album is worthy of so much more than one or two listens. It should be a part of your daily routine. (Great for an aerobic workout.) I recommend jumping and dancing highly as I'm sure you will find out at first play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Their Studio Recordings, July 18, 2007

Cheryl Crowe was opening for the BoDeans when she broke onto the scene in the mid 90's. I knew of the BoDeans and thought they were halfway decent, but Cheryl Crowe was the one I went to see. Lucky for me, I stuck around for the BoDeans performance. They are fantastic live. To me their studio recordings were rather average and do not capture the band as they really are. I can't say enough about this album. Frankly, it is one of the best live recordings I've ever purchased. It has everything that a great live album is supposed to have. It has great songs, great vocals, and wonderful instrumentation. This is a band that must be listened to live and this album did a very good job of capturing their sound. I have rather expensive sound equipment and demand a lot from a recording. This one rates right up there with the best. All of the songs are good, but the gems are Idaho, Fadeaway, Paradise, Ballad of Jenny Rae, Lookin for me Somewhere, Far Far Away from My Heart, She's a Runaway, and Going Home. If you've only listened to their studio recordings, you need to check this one out.

I am a big fan of the BoDeans. I've seen them twice in concert and I love them! My 2 favorite songs by them are: "Say About Love" and "Good Things". If you like the BoDeans, this is the cd for you. But it is a live concert. But the concert is in tune! These guys put effort into this concert. Get this cd today! It's awesome.
