4.0 out of 5 stars The Pit - meets expectations, lots of fun, but overpriced
The Pit Headquarters:

Positives - Huge playset, lots of stuff, infinite play possibilities. My 2 five year olds love it, it occupies them for hours at a time. We keep it opened up and not in vehicle mode most of the time. Seems pretty durable, has held up to intense play for long stretches without any breaks.

Negatives - Lots of small parts,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, cheap junk
I bought this toy for my 7 year old for his birthday. It was easy enough to put together, but I didn't like the all-picture instructions. There's 100s of stickers to put on. Unfortunately, this toy just does not hold up to actual play. The railings fall off, the wings on both top and bottom are constantly falling off. It has a lot of small pieces that fall off...

Negatives - Lots of small parts, which I pretty much expected. No suprises. 5 sheets of stickers - would take HOURS to apply. I saw on another message board it took a guy 5 hours to put them all on. I didn't put on every last sticker, many are tiny and inconsequential. Seems they could have done a better job with this.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

My main issue is the price - [...] bones for this set is too high. I think it would be well worth the money for $50-60 but at [...] + it is definitely overpriced. Really could say this for all the new GI joe toys.

If you are willing to wait until next winter after xmas when this will probably be fairly significantly discounted, more power to you and you'll be getting a great deal on an overall great toy. However if you're like me and my kids and pumped up for the movie, you'll pay too much for this - I don't regret buying it and it is a great playset, you won't be disappointed with it but again $100+ is too much.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap Construction and Hundreds of Stickers...UGH, August 8, 2009

There is a very good chance that if you are looking to purchase this for your kid, you were into GI Joe back in the 80s. Before you read on, try to remember how ruggedly built those old toys were. You could smash 'em, throw 'em into the grass and dirt, and they'd be ready the next day...month...my kid is now playing with those toys 25 years later.

This toy is built of cheap, thin plastic. I guarantee if your kid drops it ONCE from chest height, it's done. The thirty-five year old nerd in one of these reviews is not who these toys are meant for. Most of the pieces do not LOCK into place and need to constantly be put back into position. Have you ever heard of toy railings that "rest" in position?! They dont snap or lock into place! I didn't even bother w/ super-glue and threw away the railings. The hinges that many of the doors/sections rely on constantly need to be popped back into place, too. There is absolutely nothing solid on this. Cheap, cheap, cheap.

If my son's eyes didn't bug out when he saw this thing, I would have returned it. Save your money...and the sanity you'll lose trying to apply page after page after page of stickers 1/4 the size of your pinky fingernail.

My son really really wanted this for xmas and I finally broke down and got it on here when price dropped by $30. It is DEFINITELY not even worth $70. I was very disappointed in the thin plastic. There are a million pieces to put together, and double that many stickers. My son is 6 yrs old and 'broke it' every time he tried to change from headquarters to vehicle. You have to pull up on the top, move it to the front while lowering the elevator shaft, then slide it onto the bottom half of vehicle...and the front and back of vehicle keeps coming apart b/c there are just little bumps to hold together. my son tries to push it to drive and it barely moves..4 of the 8 wheels are fake! there are cardboard props, and a breakthru wall that is too hard for my son to put back up when he breaks it. the only nice part is all the little compartments and hidden areas and the elevator trap door for enemies. we are returning this as he is too frustrated with it and i'm disappointed in the quality.

We bought this for our 6 year old son for Christmas. He was initially thrilled with it. He loves to play with his GI Joe guys. However, he gets frustrated while trying to play with this. He wants to move it around to different places, but if you try to pick it up, the tower detaches. He will try to roll it on the wheels, but then the tower wants to collapse. Other small pieces keep popping off during play and then he doesn't know how to put them back on. He has stopped playing with it very often because of these things and he hasn't even had it 2 months yet.

I purchased this toy as my son's "big ticket" birthday present and it was so disappointing when we finally opened the box. The assembly instructions are virtually incomprehensible (no words -- just pictures). It is an extremely flimsy toy which is frankly disgusting given the extremely high price. This is a very cheap, poorly made toy. It has a warning not to move certain parts certain ways before you do something with other parts of the "ship" but you don't see the warning until you've already done the "forbidden" thing. We never got this thing even close to working even after lots of patience and work.

The kids hardly play with it and as I'm cleaning out toys getting ready for Christmas, I can't even see donating this toy to charity. It is truly worthless. I highly recommend NOT buying it.

I picked this up at THE major US toy retailer for $40. I've been watching the price drop on this one in advance of the holidays.
Based upon the poor reviews here I was hesitant to make a buy, but for $40 it can't be that bad...but I haven't opened it yet...
If you can, avoid paying the high prices by the online resellers here. Go out to purchase it if you are on the fence since now's the time to buy, as the price will probably rise after the holidays.

1.0 out of 5 stars piece of crap, March 6, 2010

My son wanted this so bad so we spent the $100 at Christmas time to buy it for him. The quality of this toy is horrible. It is constantly falling apart. Many pieces are cardboard. The sides don't stay on, I'm constantly fixing it. I don't mind spending $100 on playmobil which will last through several kids, but my son is very careful with his toys and still this thing won't last through him. I have to say that most of the GI Joe toys are this cheaply made but for the amount of money they charged for this, I was shocked at what a piece of junk it is. Save yourself frustration and avoid this toy at all costs!!!

I bought this toy for my six year old. I had read the reviews here, some good, some bad, but he really, really wanted this so I went ahead and bought. It is February and he is still playing with it. He has no trouble setting it up, moving all the parts around and putting it all back together. The cardboard ping pong table didn't last long, but everything else has held up very well - nothing has broken off. NOW, we have not put on the numerous stickers yet and in fact, I think my son has kind of forgotten about them. That is the only part of the toy that I have to say I don't like. But I knew that was coming from one of the reviews. The price was great - $20 cheaper than retail - and we didn't pay shipping. All around a great purchase.
