Excellent Smooth Jazz Compilation and Great Sound Quality!,
By
This review is from: Joe Sample Collection (Audio CD)
I took a risk getting this album as I had never heard of Joe Sample before but I knew that I would be getting good sound quality from a GRP recording and boy was I pleasantly surprised! This album comes from a digital master and hasn't been remastered but sounds a lot better than many of the so-called remastered cds that are out there. Also, I've discovered just how good Joe's playing is and this is one of my favourite smooth jazz albums in my collection. Highly recommended and I'm glad I stumbled across this gem!

Best of the 70s,

This review is from: Joe Sample Collection (Audio CD)
This compilation of the some of the best tracks of Joe Sample's career (at least as of 1978) greatly show the expanse of his repetoire. His usage of construction, complexity of chords, heavy-handedness (a staple for Sample), and masterful improvisation are shown ten fold in this CD. "Night Flight," "Carmel," and "Rainbow Seeker" (songs one would instantly consider upon hearing Joe's great name) are of course in this collection. These are reason enough to purchase the CD. Along with other favorites of the past like "Oasis" and "Burning Up the Carnival," the casual listener will fall in love and try to play catch up with the brilliant artist with a nearly 50 year career. When your career lasts this long, you have to be good. Here are some of the examples.
