4.0 out of 5 stars A hardy laugh with Tim Allen, a more mature, seasoned actor
This movie is a pleasant, refreshing surprise. It's good to see Tim Allen again in a feature film, looking a little older, a little more seasoned and thoughtful in his acting. (He's also gotten pretty buff for the role too.) From the start, the musical score gave the gave the movie a sense of time and motion. Jim Belushi was classic in his smooth, no-nonsense way. Some...

Some of the interaction between him and Tim Allen was priceless footage. They worked off each other well. Julie Bowen 's role sort of hinted at the "ditzy blonde" initially, but then settled into a deeper character as the plot developed. Greg Germann was well-casted as her finkish boss. Wolfgang Bodison lit up the screen with his corporate look and new found friendship with the lead character. Patrick Warburton is one of my favorites anyway and its good to see him in more and more roles lately. The casting was a refreshing mix of personalities we haven't seen before and they played well together and shared the screen equitably. Their chemistry was palpable and very funny.
The look of the film was genuine, especially the corporate pharmaceutical world.
As for the story line and the comedy. I had some great laughs, good, hardy guffaws at some of the scenes. A few favorites to look for are the Target scene and the "squash" game. Very creative. Also loved the disclaimers mentioned on the pharmaceutical television ads. Some of the comedic timing was fantastic and well placed when the movie took a dramatic turn and threatened to get too serious.
The story left you feeling good and mindful about what it really means to be "Somebody". I like going to a movie, laughing hard, morally recharged, and leaving with some new joke material to tell people at the office.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice family movie...very enjoyable, June 24, 2004
This review is from: Joe Somebody (DVD)
Joe Somebody is a pretty good family movie. movie is about an average Joe played by Tim Allen who gets zero respect from his peers and work buddies. after 10 years with the same company, he wasn't given the promotion he wanted, and after getting beaten up and embarassed in front of his daughter and co-workers, he decides to take a stand, and get back what he lost in the parking lot.

i LOVE Belushi's character, Chuck Scarett. he's a former actor who had one good movie, and then his career tanked. he now teaches karate, and as he says, 90 percent of his business comes from people who got their butts kicked. i love the interaction between the Allen and Belushi character.

overall, solid and very enjoyable movie about your average Joe who wants to be somebody.

also includes some special features with a HILARIOUS deleted scene from Belushi's character.

good movie. good father's day present.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious! I loved this movie! A must buy!, August 18, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Joe Somebody (DVD)
Everybody reading this, I am going to tell you right off the bat, that this is a great family film that needs to be bought. Now for the review:

Tim Allen stars as a divorced father named Joe who is beat up at work in front of his daughter by the corporate bully at his job. But he decides to fight back! So he goes to a martial arts studio and enlists the help of an ex movie star played by Jim Belushi whose work in the K-9 movies (except part one which bored me to death K-9 1-1 and K-9: P.I. were great, made me want to see the movie more). Along the way he falls for the sweet girl at work. Will he fight or won't he?

I will not say more about this movie, because I am known to spoil the plots to movies so this is a movie you just have to rent or buy and watch in its entirety with your entire family, except the little ones (probably ages 5-8) because of the language (there are some objectionable phrases especially from his daughter). Anyway, this is great fun for everybody. Check it out!

This review is from: Joe Somebody (DVD)
Tim Allen may not always pick the best films to star in (`Big Trouble', `Galaxy Quest', `Jungle 2 Jungle') but there is no denying that what he brings to the table helps bolster those films into a league they wouldn't inhabit on their own. In fact, typing the name of any Tim Allen film comes with a sharp mix of cringe and smile, since while none of his films are typically `good' films, they are all a lot of fun to watch. `Joe Somebody' is no exception. It is generic and predictable and sits nice and easy on the `family friendly' line, but it's respectably all of those things. It understands its audience and so it serves up what that audience requires, but it does so with the extra `something'; that something being Tim Allen. Allen plays the `everyman' with ease (a role he could take on in his sleep) and so he elevates the standard material by making it warm and inviting and `lived in'. Tim Allen may not be one of the best actors out there, but he's one of the most likable and so his participation in any film helps make it palatable. `Joe Somebody' will pull you and in and keep you engaged and will leave you with a smile.

4.0 out of 5 stars OSCAR WINNER NO........ENJOYABLE ROMANTIC COMEDY....... YES!, July 24, 2007
You know, sometimes you just want to watch a movie that doesn't tax your brain. "Joe Somebody" is a good romantic comedy that has a message I'm sure we can all agree on "Be Yourself"! The cast seems to be enjoying themselves and that carries over on to the viewer. I don't think Tim Allen has ever been more likable and the romantic chemistry between him and quirky cutie Julie Bowen is believable.

Jim Belushi is very amusing as a "has been" action hero star turned boozer Karate instructor, so the next time you wake up in one of those "I don't want to do anything moods" It might be time to watch "Joe Somebody" It just might have the inspirational fluff you need! lol! The DVD transfer is very good and is a worthy purchase. You can find this for under $5.00.

3.0 out of 5 stars THE KARATE KLUTZ, May 28, 2006
This review is from: Joe Somebody (DVD)
JOE SOMEBODY has a pretty clear message: being "somebody" is mainly being yourself, and star Tim Allen does a good job in bringing this message home. He plays Joe, a nice corporate visual aid consultant, who gets slapped around by a bully employee in front of his impressionistic daughter. He decides to take lessons from a has been karate movie star, and challenges the bully to a rematch. It's all cutesy stuff, but it benefits from Allen's on target performance and a nice supporting cast including Julie Bowen, Hayden Patteniere, Patrick Warburton and Jim Belushi as the karate instructor. It's ending is not predictable and that is refreshing in movies of this type. Fans of Allen will love it; you'll like it too.

Tim Allen gives a good spazaz to Joe in this movie that makes it funny. Jim Belushi is great as the person who trains Joe in the ways of self defense. cute and not so crude like most comedys which crudeness ans sickness makes it downfall, but y'all enjoy Allen. for fans of the tool man and Belushi

3.0 out of 5 stars It Was Pretty Darn Good!, July 28, 2002
This review is from: Joe Somebody (DVD)
I saw a sneak preveiw for Joe Somebody in the theatres and thought that it was very very bad.But since then I have been talking about the film and now I think it is pretty good and probally will by it.Tom Allen has been on a really good movie spree with this and Big Trouble.Joe Somebody is worth seeing.

The Plot:Tim Allen plays Joe who is a good natured guy who has been working in his buniness for the past 10 years. His wife divorced him and his daughter is with her mother and Joe doesn't see her all the time.On Take Your Daughter to Work Day a worker who has been working there for 2 years parks in the ten year parking lot played by Patrick Warberton. When the 2 year worker hits Joe in the parking lot Joe spends his week drowing out his sorrows.Joe begins to exercise and decides to have a rematch with him.The rest of the movie shows how he gets ready for the fight.Untill the big day comes...

Joe Somebody is a good family film that got bad reveiws and should have gotton better. This movie will definatly be in my DVD collection.

ENJOY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Movie, Good Screenplay, Good Fun!, May 10, 2004
This review is from: Joe Somebody (DVD)
This movie does a great job of mixing comedy with serious themes. Divorce, anger, humiliation, and revenge are just some of the issues this great family flick confronts while managing to keep humor involved.

Tim Allen plays a divorced man who is humiliated in front of his daughter; he is slapped around like a Tanya Harding husband in the company parking lot. At first, the humiliation drives him into seclusion, but after a visit from the human resources lady he decides to tackle the situation head-on; he challenges his abuser to a second confrontation.

The movie becomes even more hysterical when Jim Belushi steps in to help Tim Allen's character learn martial arts for the upcoming battle.

I loved this movie, and you will love it too! Trust me.
