5.0 out of 5 stars New Author - Great Book, April 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Joe's Trial (Paperback)
It's obvious that this author is a rookie with regards to editing a manuscript, but the thrilling contents and the moving story overcomes these short comings.

The first two hundred pages establishes the medical and character background necessary to understand the drama. I like detail and Brand unquestionbly supplies it. His character background is so complete that in the last 280 pages I could determine which character was speaking without a name reference. Also, at this point in the book I felt like a resident in hemotology and a "close" friend of the characters.

The drama, intrigue, and suspense in the crescendo made me want to finish the book in one session rather than piece meal. I just didn't want to put this book down. I could feel the bullets flying over my head, the sympathy for the down trodden and the empathy for Dr. Joe. This is truly a great work that I hope more will get to enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fast-Paced Amalgamation, April 15, 2000
By
Colin Pier (South Bend, Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Joe's Trial (Paperback)
Joe's Trial is a fast-paced amalgamation of biomedicine, espianoge, religion, current events, and adventure held together by lively characters, a well-timed plot, and enough truth to make the fiction believeable. After a somewhat jumpy start, the novel takes the reader on a wild ride from the Midwest to the Middle East, through the whole gamut of human experiences and emotions. It is a recreational book that makes for compelling reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ahead of it's time, April 9, 2006
This review is from: Joe's Trial (Paperback)
I agree with previous reviewers, this is a diamond in the rough. The story is gripping, the rise of a man from the ashes of his nihilism to taking life again by the horns, and living it, rather than mourning it. The details are slightly over-detailed, the science is slightly outdated, Israel is not in Lebanon anymore, but the story, just like Blackhawk Down is not about technology. It is a story of the human condition where a segment of humanity, militant Islam, has taken upon itself the completion of [...] work. This time around though, it seems the momentum has changed, the Jews and Americans are not going to put up with it. This book is tremendously hopeful, and I hope to read more from the same author.
