Diversi Organ Clone Best On The Planet!,
This review is from: Joey D (Audio CD)
Let's get one thing straight! Nobody up till now has been able to perform or record in a jazz trio setting with a Hammond clone that sounds not only convincing but indistinguishable from the vintage tone wheel organ. The Diversi DV-Duo and the Italian DLQ KeyB are the same instrument, with some minor spec. differences. Killer Italian players like Alberto Marsico are endorsing and performing with the DLQ KeyB in Europe and Italian American artists like Joey DeFrancesco (an owner in the company) and Pat Bianchi,as well as numerous gospel and jazz artists(Eddie Howard Jr., P.J.Morgan, Jerry Harris, Greg Hatza etc.) are touring with the Diversi organs. Organ Jazz Man must be deaf!(or maybe he is a disgruntled employee of another Italian organ company.) I have worked as a jazz festival presenter, concert promoter, jazz workshop and clinician organizer, jazz radio host, as well as a professional pianist/organist/keyboardist, and band leader. I own three vintage Hammond organs. The Diversi Organ Company is faithfully replicating the classic vintage Hammond instrument which by the way is no longer being made. You can buy a digitally sampled re-creation from the Suzuki Corporation and spend a lot of money on an organ that still gets it wrong or check out an American Company like Diversi that gets it right! And yea,I've played and gigged with a Nord C organ and that ain't right either!
Joey D! is a great trio performance, as well as a sonic feast for Hammond Organ connoisseurs. A Tour De Force for Mr. DeFrancesco and the Diversi Organ Company, and while were at it, check out Joey's new trio recording on HighNote Records entitled 'Snapshot' which showcases the mighty Diversi Organ. Totally devastating!

Joey and his trio have done an amazing job. This disc offers a delicious mix of experiment and tradition. The eight tunes are carefully selected and Joey, saxophonist Jerry Weldon and drummer Byron Landham
groove and swing together in truly inimitable fashion. I tend to think these guys fit so perfectly together that they could steal from each other's pockets. Gone should be the days when Joey was referred to as "the late Jimmy Smiths disciple" - Joey has been an established artist in his own right for quite a long time now, and in subtlety and economy of phrasing he even surpasses his late hero. The record is recorded superbly - never had I heard the sound of a drumkit so faithfully reproduced until I bought this CD.

I am sorry, but from what I have heard of this recording, it is not what I am looking for from Joey D. This sounds more like a sax album with a few organ riffs in there somewhere. He has done much better with earlier albums. You can pass this by.

Pretty good organ work, but I don't think it was as good as it could have been.
