Buy it to get the 4th........ the "Requiem" is really slow,

This review is from: Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 4/Ein Deutsches Requiem, Op. 45/Schicksalslied, Op. 53 (Audio CD)
This set completes Jochum's stereo Brahms cycle, and while the 4th starts out a bit slow, it's worth it as a total performance. The "Requiem" conducted by Tennstedt is too slow for my tastes, but there is some very good singing. Sonics are excellent, as they are on the companion set with Symphonies 1-3.

This is my favourite performance of Brahms 4. Eugen Jochum uses a dramatic way but unlike other historical performances, he does not lose the rationality and rather gives a very convincing, unforgettable interpretation. LSO playing sounds beautifully as usual.
