This review is from: John 1-10 (Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture) (Hardcover)
A must for any scholars library but easily readable for the lay person.
Joel Elowsky does a wonderful job editing the texts of the Ancient Father's into a concise and informative view of John's gospel through the eyes of the early church. Particularly well done and informative are the Overviews which follow each pericope. I am looking forward to getting volume two.

This review is from: John 1-10 (Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture) (Hardcover)
The glaring weakness of all commentaries in this series is the lack of context. The reader is given the mistaken impression that all of the fathers were speaking with one voice when in point of fact they were not. Nevertheless this commentary is of particular value for its Christology. Many of the quotes of the fathers on the deity of Christ affirmed in John 1:1 are difficult to find elsewhere.
