5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Series
While there are 3 John Blair "Best of NYC" CD's, this First one remains the best. While the hard core will like the later ones, a better song selection, and a better choice of mixes make this the 'John Blair presents...' CD to get.

Best tracks:

Someone to Hold (Veronica) Muscles (Club 69) Body (Funky Green Dogs - Club 69 Remix) Come (Martha Wash - Hex...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but could be better
I liked the white party cd's better because each song blends well with each other. The songs which DJ David Knapp chose here do not. Sorry David, But don't start blowing your trumpets yet. Just choose your songs wisely on your next CD. I see you have potential. So let us see what you are really made of.

4.0 out of 5 stars More Reasons than Knapp!, July 22, 2000
This review is from: John Blair Party CD: NYC's Best DJ's 1 (Audio CD)
To be honest, the real reason I bought this CD was because a song I wanted was on it called "(You Got Me) Burnin' Up." David LaSalle has been playing it this summer in Ptown at the A-House. What a great song by Cevin Fisher. To my surprise, I really enjoyed all the other dance songs in this collection by DJ David Knapp, considered one of the Top3 DJ's in America. This is music that will get you moving when you feeling low or when it"s dreary outside, or when you're having a party with your friends. Its house, plus light trance. Nothing beats "Muscles" by Club 69, or another favorite "Maria" by Blondie.

Of all the "John Blair Party" CD's, this is the only one that stays in my collection. The others are OK, but this one has a better song selection, and doesn't get to sounding old after a few listens.

Hot dance tunes, and a great mix here [nice cover art too ^_^ *wink*]

As a big fan of David Knapp and having flown to many cities just to enjoy him spin and create some outstanding parties...I really enjoyed this CD. If you are only familiar with David's three WHITE PARTY Cds, you may be disapointed at first because this is not a group of top 40 dance tunes. Instead a true feeling for the actual energy and combination of musical choices David brings to a dance floor. The more I listen to this CD the more hooked I have become on it... definitely one of my first choices when filling my cd player for an evening of high energy dance music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Energizing mixture of some house music epics, May 21, 2000
This review is from: John Blair Party CD: NYC's Best DJ's 1 (Audio CD)
The songs on this compilation are put down beautifully by Knapp, who has an average reign at Roxy; nothing out of the ordinary there though. The cuts are mostly those of the Vasquezian style tribal/house, for the juice heads of the once Factory (now Twilo), roxy, and Cpi's. The songs are all classic and helped to define that beautiful era of progressive house/tribal that we are now enduring.

Knapp was decent throughout. Not bad at all.

For those of us who can't party with the family every weekend, it's cool to have CD's like this one. It reminds me of the OZ in New Orleans. It may not be the best mix in the world but it's one GIANT step in the right direction

5.0 out of 5 stars Take the Roxy home..., May 5, 1999

Those who know what is going on at the Roxy Saturday nights in NYC will really appreciate this CD. One of the mega DJs there is David Knapp who has the crowd dancing into the morning. On this CD you can find a few mega tracks that get the (mostly) guys going nonstop. I could not stop moving my body when I popped in this disk. Lets hope this awesome CD compilation made possible by John Blair and Beto Sutter continues with the other great DJs such as Calderone and Andersen who spin at the Roxy. Thanks John and Beto, you made it possible that I can have my favorite dance club atmosphere at home now as well (and thanks for giving it to me live on Saturday nights...)

5.0 out of 5 stars How do you make an anthem-filled dance mix?, June 13, 2005

Begin with the outstanding Angee Blake/David Knapp track with an 8 minute running time, and just keep building the attitude from there. The hardhouse razor n guido mix of Muscles takes things to the next l level. Hex Hector gives Martha Wash a much needed hardhouse/tribal track instead of one of the usual soft house yawners to which her vocals are usually assigned. Plasmic Honey's techno house tracks, both in long form, as well as the brilliant Johnny vicious mix of Veronica in a near 8 minute edit just show how well DJ David Knapp knows how to keep the energy going. Cevin Fisher keeps the party pumpin with some Loleatta sampling, and things finish with more diva tracks, including Funky Green Dogs, Regina Belle, and slowing the pace a bit to end, the Soul Solution mix of Blondie. A perfect party mix. Track times are:

1. calling back (8:26)
2. muscles (4:31)
3. Dreaming (5:08)
4. Take it to the top (7:15)
5. Come (4:51)
6. someone to hold (7:47)
7. activate (3:07)
8. The ride the trip (6:42)
9. you got me burnin up (3:52)
10. Body (6:03)
11. Had enough (8:15)
12. Maria (7:38)
