This review is from: John Brannen (Audio CD)
I cannot express just how much I enjoy this CD. I first discovered who John Brannen was back in 94 or 95. He was a newcomer on the country seen at the same time Toby Keith and Shania Twain came on. And I remember his southern twangy voice, and the rhythmn of his music.

John Brannen appeared on some country station TV shows back then including hosting VH1 during the time they gave a short amount of airtime to country music.

I'm quite positive he made a video or two.... but then he was gone! If I hadn't recorded his appearances on live TV, I may have forgotten about him. Then I had to search for his music.

If anything, his style most closely resembles the sound of Steve Earle. His music is country/southern rock with a drawl. He doesn't sound nearly like all the pretty boys that dominate country music. That is what sets him apart. I believe his earlier music is rock, but I doubt that rock was his calling.

I am forever baffled why this guy didn't hit superstardom in country/rock genre.

Every song here is a gem! "Love's Not Made of Steel"; I like to hear him sing.... Love's not miaaaeeed of steel; "Strangers an Hour Ago"; "Not As Tough As I Thought" And a newer CD The Good Thief has an amazing version that stands out "Amazing Grace", Rizzo

The music in this cd is so moving. I don't believe I have enjoyed a cd as much as this one. His following 2 cd's did not measure up (twilight tattoo, the good thief)
