He just keeps getting better and better!,
By A Customer
This review is from: John Cowan (Audio CD)
I've had this CD for 9 months now, as it was available self-published before Sugar Hill released it. I never get tired of listening to it! And every time I listen, my favorite song changes depending on my mood. From the haunting "Dark As A Dungeon" to the soaring "My Heart Will Follow You", the music fills your spirit and makes you glad you're alive. A touch of soul, a splash of bluegrass, a rock beat here and there, the music is difficult to categorize except to place it in the category of "exceptionally listenable" and "must buy"!

John Cowan,

John Cowan's self-titled CD is an eclectic mix of everything from bluegrass to blues to rock 'n roll. Yet somehow it all blends together and really works. I purchased this CD when it was still on a private label - over three months ago - and I still cannot hear it enough. Cowan has the voice of an angel; powerful and beautiful. There is simply no one better; at least not anyone whom I have ever heard. You absolutely cannot go wrong in purchasing this CD; I guarantee it. It's the best collection of music I have ever heard. The only thing better than listening to this CD is hearing John sing live.

Amazing Vocals,

This album captures the greatest singer of our time. See him live! Not only does he sing better than all others, he does so while playing the bass! If you're a musician you know how hard that is. These songs are uplifting and imaginative and John Cowan deserves more recognition than he gets. Truely unbelievable.

An Extraordinary Talent!!,

I first heard John Cowan back in the 1980's when he was part of The New Grass Revival and they toured with Leon Russell. I went to hear Leon, but it was John Cowan's voice that really gave me goose-bumps...and it STILL does! This CD is a wonderful mix of bluesy ballads, love songs that you'll want to play for someone special and up-tempo tunes. It crosses over boundaries into blues, bluegrass, soft rock and pop. It's been a long time since I've found a CD as rewarding. I can play it repeatedly, even on long trips in my car, and never get tired of it. John Cowan's talent is a special gift from God! Buy this CD if you want to hear a great singer, songwriter and musician.

I'm proud to tell you John, our 13 yr old daughter LOVES this CD. Her tastes might just be growing beyond the boy bands, thank goodness. As for the music, it's all terrific.

Came to John Cowan by way of New Grass Revival and some experimentation and have totally fallen in love with this CD. Stretching even the "newgrass" genre at times into rock but blending in the acoustic and traditional touches, John Cowan created a wonderful album. Of course John's voice at times carries everything, for example the amazing take on "Dark as a Dungeon." I can listen to this one endlessly!

I had the great pleasure of seeing the John Cowan Band perform at a bluegrass festival a few years ago. I had never heard of the band, but after having been exposed to them, I was hooked. Mr. Cowan is not only an accomplished bass guitar player, he also has a voice that just reaches deep into my soul. The man can sing anything! I have heard him do songs by Aretha Franklin, The Moody Blues, The Beatles, Yes, and a variety of others. All were stellar performances. I highly recommend this band, in fact, I have purchased everything I can find by this artist and I am patiently waiting for his new release.

I bought this CD thinking it was going to be like "The New Grass Revival" ,but, This CD has more of a rock'n'roll sound to it. But, still is a nice CD.
