5.0 out of 5 stars Lives Up to Description and Then Some, December 26, 2008
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: John Deere Turf Tractor with Trailer (Toy)
As the mother of a three year old living on a mini-farm I have been challenged with finding ride-on toys that perform on grass and muddy areas. After reading countless reviews for cars, trucks, tractors, mini-SUVs, etc. I came across the Turf Tractor. It explicitly states that it will run in the grass. Crossing my fingers I placed the order and received the box 6 days before Christmas. On December 23rd my husband and I began the process of putting the tractor together and discovered we were missing the parts box with the screws and plastic clip-on accessories. With fingers crossed we called Peg Perego's 1-800 number, spent less than 10 minutes on the phone with a representative and were told to expect the parts the next day. Christmas Eve the box was delivered as promised and the tractor was ready to go. We plugged in the battery for its mandatory 18 hour charge and anxiously awaited the big day. Our son was thrilled. However, we were more thrilled when the tractor rolled easily over different terrain across the property, tackled tree roots, wet leaves, mud and slight hills. There were only a few times that we needed to give the tractor a little nudge to send it on its way. The battery lasted about 2.5 hours as indicated by the battery life expectancy sheet included with the documentation. Overall this product and the company have left a lasting impression on us. We intend to purchase more products from them as we have a 5 month old who will need his own set of wheels in a few years. If you are looking for a ride-on toy that performs on turf and soil, you need to consider the Turf Tractor.

This product is awesome!! Well made, easy to put together. It was a birthday gift for a three year old boy. Other than teaching him to get on the oppposite side of the gas pedal he is doing great. He is looking for garbage & treasures to fill the wagon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little boy toy!!, March 31, 2009
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

My 2 1/2-year-old son and 4-year-old nephew each have one of these and love them. They spend hours driving them around and filling the wagons with rocks, leaves, sticks, you name it. It did not take very long for them to figure out how to steer them, back them up, etc. - although we recommend letting them learn to steer without the wagon first. They are pros now!

My only complaint is that the pin that holds the wagon on, snapped off my son's when he was learning how to back up with the wagon on it. The wagon fell when he was backing it up and then the pin fell off and we never found it. I was a little disappointed it wasn't sturdier as it is made for little kids who obviously aren't pros at backing up! Still have to get around to ordering a new one...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice for budding gardeners/farmers, April 12, 2009
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

It was our 3 year old grandson's favorite gift from Santa. I'll comment on the above reviews:
-would definitely buy this product again
-be sure to recharge at the end of each riding day as directed (charge lasts for many hours but didn't want to take the chance that he'd run out of power)
-agree that the trailer hitch is flimsy, when it broke (backing up) we replaced it with a large headed short nail (a lot less money than the replacement part) and easily manipulated by little hands
-only complaint is that the back tires often slip on wet inclines. Taught him to reverse a little and that usually worked. Haven't tried it yet - but read to wrap electrical tape around the center of the back wheels to improve traction (like rubber bands)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun, February 28, 2009
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: John Deere Turf Tractor with Trailer (Toy)
We've been using this toy during the last several visits to our friends home and have decided to purchase our own. While we agree with most of the reviewer's positive feedback we noted some comments about the flimsy trailer. We can attest to the trailer's poor quality because our son was riding the tractor recently and when he reversed, the trailer immediately jack knifed and the plastic on the hitch broke. We called the dealer to get a replacement piece and it was clear that we were not the first to call with this issue. (The replacement cost about $20 plus shipping). Overall it's great fun and recommended. Just be aware of this apparently common issue with the trailer.

I read the reviews prior to purchasing this for my two year old son for Christmas. I wanted a power ride toy that was durable, easy to use, and one that would make him smile from ear to ear on Christmas morning. I accomplished that and more!! The trusted brands of Peg Perego and John Deere do not disappoint with this tractor. Perfectly sized, runs well on turf, variable speed setting, holds a 2 hour charge, authentic look... I could go on and on! He's still a little young to handle the steering, but we're with him the entire time. I think the suggested age range of 2-7 is right on target. I am a small mommy and I even took it for a spin!!! The entire family loves watching our little boy take care of the "farm" on his new tractor~ GET ONE!!!

I purchased this riding toy for my little toddler grandson and he loves it and rides it daily. It's his favorite thing to do. I'm very pleased with my purchase. I would buy another one.

My son loves it and he is 2, but he needs to be a little older to understand the driving concept still. What I was disappointed about is that the cheaper model has more lights, an ignition key, etc, this is stripped down, but does have more power. I almost wish I had spent a little more and upgraded to the next 12V model with an ignition key.

We purchased this tractor for our son's third birthday. It may turn out to be the greatest gift ever. From the time of order to the time of delivery was about one week, not bad I thought. The box arrived in perfect condition, but there is a big color picture of the tractor on the side, so, if you are purchasing this as a surprise gift, you may want to consider shipping to an alternative address, or risk your child seeing what might be in the box, as ours did.
Major assembly is already completed for you, however, the trailor needs to be assembled, a few trim pieces need to be added to the tractor body, and stickers need to be put on. Overall, this is very easy to do, but the instructions are pictures only, there are no written directions. Total assembly time for my wife and I was about 30 minutes. We were missing one piece in the box, I am not sure how that piece would not have shipped, but I won't waste anytime pondering that. I called the manufacturer, explained what the piece was - she knew right away what I needed - and she had it shipped to me within about two days. Great service!
All I can say is, he was extremely excited to receive this toy. He immediately jumped on it and began to drive it around the yard with a smile from ear to ear. We had no regrets! He is an average size boy for three years old, and he fits it just fine, even with the seat set to the second (farthest back) setting.
Overall, we are very pleased with the product. Our son rides this tractor every day, whether for five minutes or two hours. He typically drives around in 2nd gear, which is about as fast as a brisk walk - well within his capabilities. The battery life is very good, and I would say that the manufacturers specifications for battery life are very accurate (about two hours ten minutes for a single rider on flat smooth surface with no load).
Here is one thing to consider, if you have the money, spring for an extra battery, so you always have one charged and ready to go. As of today, we have had the tractor for about three weeks, and we charge the battery after every use (again, whether that is five minutes or two hours) - we have not expereinced any issues with the battery wearing down faster, yet. During the weekdays, it is not a big deal to have the battery run down because it is time to come in anyway, but on the weekends where you might be outside for longer periods, an extra battery might be handy to have. I will say this however, not having that second battery is about the only way we can get him off the tractor. He doesn't like to stop driving if he doesn't have too, so having to charge the battery is a good excuse to get him to focus on other things.
Only one complaint, the "pin" that holds the trailor to the tractor is the first, and only, piece of this tractor that malfunctioned. The pin is a piece of plastic and you have to line it up properly through the trailor and tractor to lock the tooth in place. That probably sounds a lot more complicated than it really is. Anyway, our three year old is not a very adept driver with a trailor when he has to go in reverse, so the first thing that happened was he jack-knifed the trailor and turned it on its side. This disfigured the pin and more importantly, the tooth. This made it extremely difficult to remove the pin, and disconnect the trailor. I just threw this pin away, and used a metal pin I had laying around from a piece of yard equipment that I used to tow behind my riding mower. This worked great, and is probably a better long term solution anyway.
Overall, we are 100% satisfied with this product, and even though I thought is was a very expensive birthday present, seeing his face light up the day he got it, and every day that he rides it, made the expense well worth it. Our son went to bed that night dreaming about his new tractor, I know because he was talking in his sleep! I would recommend this product to anyone who has a child who loves tractors.
