3.0 out of 5 stars A little hokie...but still worth owning
This film features the other artists quite a bit, but still has enough John Denver to make it worth watching. It is certainly not entirely a Christmas program, and probably half of the program is filled by popular songs and native american type visuals.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas Legacy, January 4, 2004
This review is from: John Denver - Montana Christmas Skies (DVD)
I am thankful that John Denver was a contemporary of mine. He has inspired and motivated me during most of my adult life. Only John Denver could have given us Montana Christmas Skies. I cherish its beauty, its warmth, and its message. John Denver's music is a Christmas staple at our house, and this DVD, along with John Denver's legacy, will continue to touch my heart and spirit in the years to come. I recommend John Denver's music in general, and Montana Christmas Skies in particular, as nourishment for the soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Christmas Tradition, December 11, 2004
By
This review is from: John Denver - Montana Christmas Skies (DVD)
I found this DVD in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart. Not being a particular John Denver fan (I like some of his stuff, but for the most part I can take it or leave it) I decided to take a chance.

I was very pleasantly surprised. JD, Clint Black, Kathy Mattea, and Patty Loveless jammin' in the barn is the best! Personal highlights for me are Clint Black's "Till Santa's Gone", Kathy Mattea's "Christ Child Lullaby", and Patty Loveless & Kathy Mattea do a great duet of "Someday Soon".

There are other highlights too like the JD classic "Grandma's Feather Bed", John singing "Rudolph" and "Away In A Manger" with a group of kids, and the bittersweet emotions evoked by John singing "I want to Live". Although I'm not a number one fan, the world is a much sadder place without him.

If you're thinking twice about purchasing this video, think no more. It's a wise purchase that you'll enjoy for years to come. I know I have.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must in the Christmas collection of any John Denver Fan, December 10, 2001
This review is from: John Denver - Montana Christmas Skies (DVD)
One day in the Fort Belknap Reservation, 4 friends gathered together with the local tribespeople for an evening of songs and stories. This is the way Christmas was meant to be spent...among friends and family. Thankfully for us, the entire experience was taped, and you too can feel right at home with John and his friends. The video switches later on from the reservation, to a concert. So gather your family around, and join John Denver, Kathy Mattea, Clint Black, Patti Loveless, and the Native Americans on Montana's Fort Belknap reservation to enjoy an old-fashioned country Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars John Denver at his best, December 20, 2005
This review is from: John Denver - Montana Christmas Skies (DVD)
John Denver loved Christmas! And it really shows on this DVD. I have a tradition of watching this every year, and I never tire of it. The songs are beautiful, the scenery gorgeous, and it's fun seeing John singing along with some wonderful country singers in a barn. The barn atmosphere brings a real intimacy to the entire experience. Some highlights for me are "Christmas for Cowboys", "Someday Soon", " A Change in the Air", and the Scottish lullaby that Kathy Mattea sings, while rocking a tiny infant. That song never fails to bring a tear to my eye!
If you love John Denver, or even if you don't, I highly recommend this Christmas DVD. I think it will become a family tradition to watch it every year in your home too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Join John, Clint, Kathy & Patty for a memorable holiday, November 6, 2001
John is joined by several country stars as they sing favorite and memorable holiday songs. Several solos by Clint Black, patty Loveless and Kathy Mattea add to the glory of John Denver's unique style and love of life.
As a true JD fan for decades, it hurts to see him so alive and singing "I want to live" and yet, I feel that his legacy, his music, his ability to help us think and to grow will live on, especially in this video. The Native American Indians and cowboys who share stories along the way only enhance this video.
I have purchased about a dozen copies of this video from amazon.com over the last few years to give to friends here and abroad. They all have truly enjoyed the fine collection of songs.
John may be gone now, but he will never be forgotten. I very highly (rank this 10+ on a scale from 1-5) recommend this to everyone and anyone. It was and remains a classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars As OnlyJohn Can Do It..., December 12, 1999

John Denver's Montana Christmas is a great musical adventure in the style which only John could deliver. The narration is not only appropriate, it is complementary to the setting and season. Now that John has passed on, his words carry a new and deeper meaning. Long live John's memory! It would be great if the other Christmas concerts were available also.

The Montana Sky is blue, the scenery is breathtaking, and the guest are entertaining. The spirit of the season is heartwarming. I highly recommend this video. John Denver is in his elements here as usual, he is missed.

4.0 out of 5 stars John Denver Christmas, July 23, 2002
This review is from: John Denver - Montana Christmas Skies (DVD)
Overall an excellent video. The only thing that keeps it from being a 5 in my book is the interuption of some songs with talk that is not related to the song -- the most glaring occurs during the song "Wild Montana Skies" when after 2 verses it is interupted for a cowboy poem (about a cowboy's bad luck when it comes to marriage) when the song resumes it is for the ending chorus.

If you love John Denver then this DVD is a must have.
