Biography

John Denver was an American folk singer and songwriter who became one of the most popular singers of the 70s.

In his early career he toured the folk clubs of Los Angeles and in 1965 joined the Chad Mitchell Trio. By 1969 he had decided to go it alone and released his first album Rhymes and Reasons, which contained the track "Leaving on a Jet Plane", which became a hit for Peter, Paul and Mary the… Read more in Amazon's John Denver Store

5.0 out of 5 stars The Last Of John Denver's Three Greatest Hits Albums!, September 4, 2000
By
Barron Laycock "Labradorman" (Temple, New Hampshire United States) - See all my reviews
(HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: John Denver's Greatest Hits Volume 3 (Audio CD)
This is the final of the three albums of John Denver's greatest hits released even as he was continuing to make them. Here we see the additional monster hits that kept him in a position of preeminence, popularity and superstardom in the 1970s. In his heyday no one was outselling his albums or out-booking John for concert appearances, and considering the incredible talents on the scene at the time, that is a pretty good indication of just how popular he was, and just how universal John Denver's appeal was. No one else sang of the wide-open possibilities and seemingly limitless possibilities for a good life awaited those who would free themselves from the bonds that confined them and just dare to soar along with him in the wild open spaces. All the tracks here are terrific, from "How Can I Leave you Again?", a wonderful love song, to "Shanghai Breezes", "Seasons Of The Heart", and "Perhaps Love" (with Placido Domingo) all from his wonderful "Seasons Of The Heart" album, to Welcome to My Morning", to "Dancing With The Mountains", another of his many paeans to appreciating the beauties of nature and the natural life.

John, more than any of his contemporaries, actively caught the public's imagination regarding the wonders of the natural environment, and in a time when environmental concerns were splashed all over the headlines and the evening news, John's vision of popular concern for and stewardship of the natural world was immensely important. Indeed, to speak of John now is to evoke a mental picture of him backpacking in the Rockies, that shock of unruly blond hair tossled about and a grin as big as the wide open sky behind him. I love all the songs here, including "Wild Montana Skies", "Some Days Are Diamonds', and "The Gold And Beyond", about the Olympic movement, and my own special favorite, "I Want To Live". This album represents a wonderful overview of the mature work of John as he thrilled a whole generation with his own perspective of a meaningful life lived in the natural splendor of nature. I know you will enjoy this as well as the other two in this three album series of John's greatest hits. Far out!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Best of John Denver, November 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: John Denver's Greatest Hits Volume 3 (Audio CD)
This is my favorite of all John Denver's albums. His voice is at its best and every number on this album is excellent. My particular favorites are "Perhaps Love" (unlike a previous reviewer, I think Placido Domingo's voice is terrific in combination with Denver's) and "Wild Montana Sky", a beautiful anthem to Denver's open spaces/free spirit theme. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent album, June 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: John Denver's Greatest Hits Volume 3 (Audio CD)
I bought all three of his greatest hits album and I like all of them except for "Perhaps Love" in Greatest Hits 2 & 3 which he had a duet with Luciano Pavarotti. Pavarotti's inclusion in the song is a mistake and the song sounds terrible with him singing. Overall, however, the album is good to listen to. Three cheers for the late John Denver!
