5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent alternative/power-pop
Every track on this album is strong, from the single "Miss Catch-22" on. Very melodic but still very rock-n-roll. Clever & insightful lyrics, primarily focusing on relationship-type issues, but universal. John Faye has an excellent voice (holds up great live) and the rest of the band members are strong as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Promising, But Not There Yet.
i heard the single 'dancing in your shadow' on a local station showcasing new music in philadelphia. i thought the song was very well performed (particularly with the instrumentals) - and purchased the CD a day later.

they delivered what i expected: a few nice hooks and bare minimum lyrical power. out of the twelve tracks, perhaps half of them kept my interest - as john...

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid CD, December 16, 1999
This review is from: John Faye Power Trip (Audio CD)
This is a really solid pop/rock CD. John Faye is a terrific song writer. His songs are really catchy. Great to listen to while drivin' around in the car. BTW, just saw him play at a local club. He's even better live.

I haven't gotten the album yet, but i'm planning to. These guys opened up for Matthew Sweet when i saw him a few weeks ago, and it was some might nice tunez. Theres nothing better then an underground rocker.

I heard Miss Catch-22 on the radio a few years back. I thought it was a great song but didn't remember the neam of the band. Then I heard "Dancing in your shadow" about a year later on the Y100 philly file cd and new I had to have this album. It took me a while to find it but now that I have it I know it was worth the time and money spent. I don't normally sit throw every song on an album but I had to hear what was coming next. Now that i've heard this I think i'm going to pick up their new cd, Parallel Universe (as well as the Caulfields cds) and try to grab their new dvd. I'm dying to see them play live.

5.0 out of 5 stars John Faye Power Trip Rock, September 25, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: John Faye Power Trip (Audio CD)
I saw John Faye Power Trip in DE at the Night To Unite, and since they rocked mightily I picked up their album at the show. This is one great pop album especially considering I don't normally even like "power-pop" and generally prefer bands like the Bon Jovi. Quite Honestly, if you like music , you will like this album. I couldn't stop listening to and humming the songs. "Good Year for The Girls" is my personal favorite song, but every song on the album is catchy and good. Kudos to these guys on making a good album and showing up for a worthwhile charity event. I'd recommend checking them out live and buying the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars More pop from PA!, April 13, 2000

I fell in love with this album from the time I heard the demo this summer. John Faye has put forth another tremendous effort, and it shows! This album was in my top five for best cd purchases of 1999, and I can't wait for the next one. If you are a Caulfields fan, I think John only improves with time. I have yet to find a better collection of tunes than "Dancing In Your Shadow," "Miss Catch-22," and all of the others. The lyrics alone on "D-R-A-M-A-M-I-N-E" and "Whisper At the Top of My Lungs" are brilliant. The only thing you can do after buying this album and listening to it continuously for weeks (you will), is to go out and see The John Faye Power Trip play live. They frequently make their way up and down the east coast and into the midwest as well. Plus, if you're lucky enough to be in Los Angeles in late July/early August, you may be able to catch them at the International Pop Overthrow. Go! Buy this album...I've already bought 3 copies!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great CD!, November 23, 1999

I bought this CD for the song "Miss Catch-22," but I quickly found that John Faye and his Power Trip are more than just one song. I really like "Return the Bride," "A Good Year for the Grrls," and "DRAMIMINE." All the songs are fun and I recommend this CD to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars My mistake..., November 3, 1999

It's actually "Translation" that Peter Case co-wrote with John Faye on this album. But I don't change anything else I said in my prior review. This CD rawks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Power Pop At Its Best, October 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: John Faye Power Trip (Audio CD)
Very strong songwriting, production values perfectly balancing restraint and explosiveness, tasteful orchestration, and earnest-in-a-good-way vocals by John Faye make this my new favorite album. If you dig Matthew Sweet, Velvet Crush, Elvis Costello, or Big Star, have this CD overnighted into your hot little hands immediately. This is by far the best power pop album to hit the streets all year, chock full of instantly memorable hooks and groovy instrumentation -- You'll find yourself humming these tunes to yourself the first day you hear it, and singing along with every play soon after.

John's a modest guy, but ya gotta know he's brimming with cred (and talent) when the likes of Peter Case deem him worthy of co-writing a song ("Pyramid"). And his band, the Power Trip, hold up their end of the bargain beautifully, rocking the tunes in such a yummy way, you don't have room for dessert. This CD could not be more tight, more tuneful, or more fun. Buy it today and play it till your ears bleed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Nifty Album from John, October 16, 1999
By

This review is from: John Faye Power Trip (Audio CD)
After two excellent albums with the Caulfields, John Faye keeps his batting average high with his first "solo" (more or less) album. John seems to have eliminated the occasional clumsly lyric that proved a little jarring with the Caulfields, serving up twelve never-less-than-good power pop numbers with generally intelligent lyrics. Early favorites are "Miss Catch 22" and "Whisper at the Top of My Lungs". Recommended to anyone who likes this sort of thing.
