This review is from: John Field: Piano Concertos Nos. 2 & 3 - Andreas Staier / Concerto Köln / David Stern (Audio CD)
This is an exceptional recording in every way. Field's two concertos are excellent compositions, lively and full of interesting details. Staier's performance on pianoforte is wonderful. I purchased this recording partly on strength of the review I read in Grammophone magazine which praised Staier's inventive playing. Those new to pianoforte should understand that the instrument does not have the power of a modern grand piano, but this is easily overcome (as it is in Malcom Bilson's Mozart concertos series) with imaginative performers like Staier. The Concerto Koln should also be commended for their fantstic playing. The recording is clear and of extremely high quality as well. Highly recommended!
