An Overlooked Gem,
By
This review is from: John Fogerty (Audio CD)
Those fans who appreciate John Fogerty's commercially successful releases, Centerfield and Blue Moon Swamp, should check out this self titled solo effort. Its an overlooked gem which is brewing with many styles. The most familiar song on here is Rockin' All Over The World. It features an upbeat tempo and a stunning piano solo in the middle. Almost Saturday Night is another song others may be familiar with. Like the arrangment between the guitars and the drums. The real hidden gems on this record are Dream/Sonmg, Travelling High, and When The River Flows. I love the way the stylings so casually change on Dream/Song from acoustic to mellow jazz to rock n roll oer the coruse of the songs verses. The horn arrangement on Travelling High is oh so captivating and soothing on When The River Flows. Even though I singled out my favorites, this entire record(yes I have the vinyl again) is a winner through and through. You'll like it and like it as you're rocking all over the world.

****1/2. Underrated,

This is really an underappreciated record. It rocks harder than most Creedence material, and three or four of these songs rate among Fogerty's best output, most notably the classic "Rockin' All Over The World" (here in its tough original rendition).
The melodic "Almost Saturday Night" and "Where The River Flows" should have been hits as well, and John Fogerty's renditions of "Lonely Teardrops" and "You Rascal You" are very good. If you are a Creedence fan, this set won't disappoint you, and casual listeners should find a lot to like as well. The sound is a litle less "swampy", perhaps, but the qualities than made Creedence Clearwater Revival the #1 American band of the late 60s are certainly here. John Fogerty plays every instrument himself, and his guitar playing is particularly raw and gritty. 4 1/2 stars. Highly recommended.

All time favourite!,
By A Customer
This review is from: John Fogerty (Audio CD)
I bought this album on vinyl years ago after completing my CCR collection and it just blew me away! That must have been more than 20 years ago and now I have the album on CD. After all these years it is still among my top 10 of all time favourite albums. As far as I know John Fogerty was kinda dissapointed with the reception this album got and he later admitted that he was not 100% satisfied with the end result. I still wonder how much the reception this album got in the US coloured his opinion. In Europe however this album was a smash hit and The Netherlands in particular regard John's album as a genuine CLASSIC! So stop whining about the mix and drums not being upfront in the mix. You try to make an album worth of 10 songs on your own. A genuine Dutch Fogerty fan

It's all in the sound.,

The album is excellent, brilliant songs, great saturday night listening but that's spoiled by the unbelievably bad cd quality , it's shocking! , a contender for the worst cd mastering ever.
John fogerty deserves better than this.

A Bootleg Could Sound Better,
By
This review is from: John Fogerty (Audio CD)
I have been a Recording Engineer. This CD is one of the worst I have heard -IF it is a studio mix. The guitar is so loud it drowns out most everything else. There is no bass, the drums sound like they were two doors away when recorded. John's voice when you can hear it is good. This has a good selection of songs but the mastering makes me wish that I could return it. I have heard bootleg albums that sounded better in my opinion. A BIG disapointment. A waste of my time ordering and money.

Fogerty's A Survivor,
By Brent Evans (Rockhampton, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: John Fogerty (Audio CD)
This album was made under stress with John Fogerty battling Fantasy and his past. What came out was a mixed album and public indifference.I qualify this release as a worthy failure, with such stellar tracks as ROCKIN' ALL OVER THE WORLD,LONELY TEARDROPS,and ALMOST SATURDAY NIGHT. Unfortunately, there are some clunkers, too:THE WALL,YOU RASCAL YOU,SEA CRUISE.John sounds in fine raspy form;the production sounds tinny, though . This album showed that Fogerty would continue to fight his CREEDENCE image to the very end and try new approaches.Unfortunatelu, his record company refused to release his next album HOODOO,and as a result,Fogerty would keep silent until CENTERFIELD.

Underrated,

This Album was part of JCF's obligation to the Fantasy records then owned by Vanz Kant Danz, whom screwed CCR big time and got richerrrr. The song "You Rascal You" is also about the guy who later sued John for "IMMITATING HIS OWN SONGS'.Any hooo, this album was popular outside US and the Payola system was the cause here. I have 2 new CD's for keeps sake. Why it is not being remasrered is beyond me. "The Wall" is pure Bayoo CCR. Almost Sturday Night is great. EXCELLENT. Buy it if you find one.

In my opinion this album was great when it was released in 1975 and it still is today.Along with his classic Blue Ridge Rangers album of 1973 Fogerty was doing the one man band thing way before it was easy to do with todays digital equipment. |
