About the Author

John G. Lake (1870—1935) was born in Ontario, Canada. While he was still a child, his parents moved to the United States. At twenty–one, he became a Methodist minister; however, he chose to start a newspaper instead of accepting a church ministry. When his wife was miraculously healed under the ministry of John Alexander Dowie in April 1898, Lake's life and ministry were forever altered.

Lake is probably best remembered for his missionary work in South Africa, but his ministry in the United States was also powerful. One hundred thousand healings were recorded in five years at the Lake Healing Rooms in Spokane, Washington.

This book is really good in these end times that we are in. We are looking way too much to doctors to heal us (which is not to say never to look to doctors), but to look to God first (always) as John G. Lake teaches. He also teaches we need to be santified to get our healings, which we all want so much from God but do not want to do anything for God. This is a very deep book on about growing closer to God in order to walk with God's healing blessings.

This book represents sermons and his writings on the topic of healing. The very first chapter is a bit unsettling, which is why I gave the book just 3 stars. He states that to go to a doctor is an admission that one does not have faith to be healed by God. Thus, he is telling the reader that going to the doctor is the wrong thing to do. This is stated in no uncertain terms. I cannot agree with this first chapter whatsoever. I believe that many fine doctors are led by the Lord to help mankind in the healing arts. To state that it shows a lack of faith to doctor is quite an extreme statement in my opinion. Perhaps this strong statement on healing is more a denouncement of the medical arts in the early 1900's than today. The rest of the book focuses on the many verses of the Bible that state that the Lord is our healer and that he is still healing today. Lake gives many of his personal experiences of healing as well. I enjoyed the book, but strongly disagree with the first chapter.

This book is a startling and fascinating account of the rationale for spiritual healing as a gift, right and power of every spirit filled believer in Jesus Christ. There are many highly substantiated accounts of healing of every kind. I couldn't put it down!

The battle still rages 100 years later between the true believers in miracles and those deceived by the devil. The messages and articles in this book inspire me to continue my fight. I believe we are fighting a winable war.
