3.0 out of 5 stars A Phanthom For The Opera, September 24, 2001

This review is from: John Gay - The Beggar's Opera / Jonathan Miller - John Eliot Gardiner - Roger Daltrey - English Baroque Soloists [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This British production had all the trappings of an exceptional BBC TV program. The wardrobe, direction, players and (of course) Roger Daltrey all added class to this film. The singing was somewhat restrained, however, and this could be due to the cramped quarters reconstructed for the sake of authenticity....which is a pity. Still, this film adds to the mystique of the infamous Mack the Knife and rivals the Broadway version Sting starred in.
