My grandson was doing a report for school and I thought this little book would be a perfect tool to get the facts straight!

Format: Paperback
This small book written for young people does a good job on explaining the life of John Glenn from his years as a young boy growing up in Ohio to his years as an astronaut and then senator and an astronaut again.

There are black and white photos throughout, although some just give pictures of boys, not John Glenn and since the book is printed on newsprint the photos are not of the best quality. There are 2 pictures as you open the book that give a fascinating glimpse of the man - him in his space helmet for his Mercury mission and then years later in another space helmet for his `Discovery' space shuttle mission.

The stories are interesting, although the conversations are so detailed; one begins to wonder what really was said and what has been expanded upon by the author. It does make for appealing reading both for ages 8 and up for which it was written and those much older.
It is a book in the series of Childhood of Famous Americans, but it also includes the adult years and especially his love of country, his family and his long time love Annie, his wife.
