This book is an excellent tool for motivating students to write neatly/learn cursive. You can copy the activities of the book's character, a teacher. Once the students master handwriting, they join the John Hancock Club. Students sign the chart, and later, she has a cake that members of the club can share in honor of John Hancock. Great way to learn!!
