A most non-politically correct look at the old south,
By Roy Johnson (Tacoma, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: John Jasper: The Unmatched Negro Philosopher and Preacher (Hardcover)
If you dare to have some of your pet theories about the old Antibellum South challenged, take a look at this unusual little volume! The story of a Black slave that became one of the most famous Protestant preachers of the South. The life of John Jasper provides a look at the South from the vantage point of the Preacher himself, with some portions of his sermons reprinted. A most unusual and unorthodox look at the spirit of his era.

This review is from: John Jasper, the Unmatched Negro Philosopher and Preacher (Paperback)
This is the third copy I have purchased. I have given them as gifts to friends that have not heard about this unique and interesting figure from the 19th Century. His life and service will challenge you to do more with what you have. Before you start this book you need to study the language of the "Old South." This will help reading the sermons as they were taken down by hand in Jasper's manor of speaking. This little book is a window into a past way of life that will amaze and touch you.
