Gr 6-10-A serviceable look at the man and his legacy. Objective, well-chosen primary-source material includes many quotes from Kennedy's speeches and books. Chapter endnotes and familiar black-and-white archival photos and maps contribute to the title's usefulness for reports. Uschan chronicles Kennedy's rise to power, attributing much of his success to his personal drive to be president, supported by his father's financial backing. The information about the severity of his various health problems, including Addison's Disease and chronic backaches, is particularly revealing. Kennedy's triumphs and his faults, including his womanizing, are dealt with fairly and honestly, as explained in quotes from various biographers. Poor sentence construction occasionally mars the narrative. Overall, though, this book is an adequate addition where needed.-Phyllis Graves, Creekwood Middle School, Kingwood, TX
