The chess set is a very nice pice for play and display....!

The Chess pieces that come with this set are slightly too big for the board and their bases tend to overlap into other squares.

Read the rules carefully, it takes a little getting use to but it is a lot of fun.

I have really enjoyed this variation of chess but suggest that you download the Millennium 3D chess rules and use those instead of the ones included in the box. A really nice set at an excellent price and a whole new way of thinking about chess.

I bought this as a gift for an 18 year old family member who has won high-school chess tournaments several times. He really liked the game, but did comment that, with the three boards directly over each other, it was hard to keep track of where all the pieces were. He felt that if they were moved over just a bit, it would be easier. His uncle, who played several games with him, agreed. All in all, though, he was pleased with it and it's certainly a better tri-level choice than the mega-expensive "Star Trek" version!!

The first thing is that the boards are SMALL. They measure eight inches by eight inches with each square being just a hare short of one inch. There is a five inch clearance in between each board. The frame is sturdy, but can bend if enough pressure is applied.

The boards are made of rigid, but relatively thin plastic. Almost like Plexiglas. They're clear without coloration and they are printed with alternating black and clear squares. Each one fits into the frame with a single screw that goes into the board's center into a tapped hole. Once it's screwed in, the screw will be fairly level with the board surface.
When screwing the screws in, you will need a Phillips head screwdriver with a very short handle as the clearance is only about five inches. You also want to make absolute sure that the board is aligned properly when you screw it in because the black squares are printed on the underside and the ink will scratch and flake off easily if it spins and scratches against the metal frame. It's rather easy to scratch.

Once complete and set up, I noticed a problem. The Chess pieces that come with this set are slightly too big for the board and their bases tend to overlap into other squares. They're also a little bit too tall and easy to knock over. I would suggest getting ahold of some really small Chess pieces to use with this set. Pieces from those tiny portable sets would do. That's what I substituted. If you don't want the plastic bottoms scratching the playing surface, you can even glue a piece of felt or cork under each piece. To give it a little weight, you might even fill the pieces with some lead shot before covering the bottom.
If you have access to really tiny wooden pieces, all the better.

I ended up getting this for my boyfriend who likes chess but needed it to be a little bit more fun. He and a few of his friends learned the rules from the included guide fairly easily and had a good time playing it. The board itself was a little disappointing. It of course came in pieces but the black paint on the plastic boards was already scratched up as well as the aluminum support. What was really a problem was the fact that one of the screw holes for the boards wasn't tapped (i.e. no threads) so I had to get a friend to take it to a workshop do that. It was pretty annoying that something like that could have passed through inspection. All in all my boyfriend is really enjoying it...especially because he know kicks everyone's butts at it.

Strato Chess with 3 levels was the hit of the day for our 16 yr old Grandson. It was high on his Christmas wish. He loves the challenge and is thinking of entering chess contests. It doesn't take up a lot of space on his desk, & light weight for carrying to his friends homes. I would have been nice to have had more description, the dimensions, weight & the type of material used. when ordering.

My 14 yo requested this on his "santa" list. Looked everywhere locally for it, could not find it. Searched online found it here. He loves it. It comes in a game size box, so you have to put it together. Very simple to piece it together. We did run into a problem where the middle section screw hole was not quite drilled right, but we fixed it ourselves. Glad to see that it was plastic boards and not glass, as you know how kids break breakables. Perfect for a teenager.

My boyfriend and I love this game, but if you touch the table wrong it falls over, the instructions were vague so we had to do our own research to actually learn how to play!!! It took 2 weeks 37 games and about 20 hours on the computer to learn the right way to play game.LOVE THE GAME HATE THE CRAFTSMANSHIP, and if you research your own instructions it a blast. Just buy a different sturdier brand name board

It is as advertised. If interested, go ahead and get it. I do not think you will be disappointed. I wish the set were a litter larger and more durable over all. However, if cared for this set will last a long time. Not to be tossed into a toy box or crammed into a closet. Probably want to disassemble and store in the box between uses. A single screw holds each level to the support, so it is easy to put together and take a apart.
